About the Opportunity
The Fixed Income Trader will work as a member of the Global Fixed Income Investment team and will be responsible for executing complex order flow for global, multi-asset investment business in support of a wide range of investment strategies. This position requires extensive knowledge of fixed income markets with comprehensive understanding of investment strategies, trading conventions, and execution strategies of global bonds including sovereign and credit bonds for developed and emerging markets, deliverable and non-deliverable currencies, and interest rate, credit, index, and currency derivatives. What are the ongoing responsibilities of this role?
Strive for best execution across a full range of asset classes in various markets and time zones: Rates, FX, Structured Credit, IG/HY Credit, Repo, and derivatives including Total Return Swaps, Interest Rate Swaps, Interest Rate, Bond, and Commodity Futures, and Credit Default Swaps. Perform and report transaction cost analysis as required.Ensure client orders are executed in an appropriate, efficient, timely, equitable, cost-effective manner, and in line with trade instructions.Provide input into portfolio management decisions relating to liquidity and pace of execution.Establish, maintain, and leverage strong, constructive relationships with broker counterparties to influence and optimize outcomes for trade execution.Provide market intelligence, analysis, and news to help keep the investment team informed of market conditions.Be knowledgeable of portfolio positioning and evolving investment decisions; participate in investment research meetings as time permits.Evolve and enhance trading outcomes by staying abreast of new market practices, algorithms, and systems, and implementing new automation in an appropriate, controlled manner.Work with members of the investment team, portfolio compliance, client service, and risk management teams, as needed, to resolve any trade errors, guideline breaches or other issues in a timely manner.Participate in client, prospect, audit, and due diligence meetings as required.Present execution workflows, asset class knowledge, and evolving industry conventions to clients and internal stakeholders as needed.Contribute to the improvement and continuous evolution of the trading function.What ideal qualifications, skills & experience would help someone to be successful?
7+ years professional experience in an institutional trading role, with deep expertise in buyside trading workflows.Extensive knowledge of global fixed income securities, currencies, derivatives, and benchmarks.Bachelor’s degree with strong financial, mathematical, and analytical skills preferred. CFA, MBA, and other industry licenses a plus.Knowledge of fixed income and multi-asset class investment products and strategies is a plus.Experience with electronic execution platforms and order management systems such as FX Connect, MarketAxess, Tradeweb, Trumid, and Bloomberg AIM is a plus.Compensation Range: Franklin Templeton offers employees a competitive and valuable range of total rewards—monetary and non-monetary — designed to support their well-being and recognize their time, talents, and results.
