The purpose of this role within the Legal function at HEINEKEN is to lead and support the management, protection and enforcement of trademark rights.

 

 

Roles & Responsibilities: 

•Trademark prosecution and lifecycle management, including applications, oppositions, non-use/cancellation proceedings, and renewals.

•Trademark watching to monitor competitor activities and identify potential infringements.

•Freedom-to-operate searches for new brands and initiatives to reduce legal and commercial risks.

•Manage and analyze the company’s IP portfolio (trademarks, designs, copyrights, domain names; excluding patents).

•Protect and enforce IP rights globally, including support in managing disputes, claims, and offensive/defensive actions against competitors and third parties.

•Coordinate global online brand protection (counterfeits, impersonations, scams) and liaise with external providers.

•Develop renewal strategies aligned with commercial use, brand relevance, and geographic footprint.

•Provide portfolio insights and analytics to support strategic decision-making.

•Deliver operational support to the IP team across legal, educational, and practical matters.

•Compile the annual Brand Index in collaboration with operating companies for active global brands.

•Educate and train stakeholders on IP protection, risks, and opportunities.

 

 

Experience & profile (What & How):

 

What:

Education: Law degree at University level, subsequent Trademark Attorney specialization/qualification Work experience: 5-9 years Required work experience in field of expertise: Proven track-record of cross-border IP management and trademark law matters. Demonstrated experience with IP prosecution (trademark watching, clearance, filing, oppositions etc.), in international trademark attorney prosecution firm or law firm or FMCG multinational Functional skills: Legal expertise, international and multi-jurisdictional enforcement (incl. trademark oppositions and (non-use) cancellations), IP portfolio management (covering trademark clearance, searching, and watching), risk management, stakeholder management, problem solving, decision making, business acumen, project management, digital adeptness, and experience with legal tech solutions, AI and new ways of working. Languages: fluent in English, good understanding of Dutch
