The Tooling Technician monitors tooling and fixture status against established guidelines and possesses working knowledge of the capabilities with a desire to learn to operate all tool room machinery and equipment. They possess knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices and procedures within a particular field and performs routine tooling, fixture, and machine repairs, assists with new and revised toolroom builds, designs fixtures, and assists in maintaining toolroom records and drawings, relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job and occasionally works under limited direction. 

Essential Job Functions:

Performs routine repairs of tooling, fixtures, and machines, including resurfacing, replacing worn components and machining of parts using machine and hand tools. Assists with a program of preventive maintenance for the toolroom; ensures that machines, tools, and fixtures are maintained per required intervals and scheduled for servicing and repair when needed; oversees new production set-ups, operation, and storage for proper use when necessary. Reviews and collaborates on plans for new tools, fixtures, and workstations. Assists in debugging and modifying new tools, fixtures, machines, and methods when necessary.  Builds or modifies assembly and brazing fixtures and organizes and files sketches and preliminary drawings of these items.Develop rework operations as needed to salvage incorrectly made production parts and assemblies. Assists in reviewing product manufacturing changes to identify tooling and fixture requirements, quotes tooling and fixture costs, and initiates purchase requisitions to fabricate, modify, or purchase tools and fixtures. Helps maintain tooling and process records, tooling and fixture inventory, and gathers information to assist with disposition of obsolete tooling and fixturing.Complete plant continuous improvement ideas (CI’s) when assigned and identify and complete additional CI’s for the department.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience Requirements:

Previous stamping setup and sheet metal operation experience preferred. Machining knowledge preferred. Critical thinking and problem- solving skills necessary. Effective communication and presentation skills. Troubleshooting skills and attention to fine detail.  Documentation and organizational skills. Minimum 5 years’ experience in sheet metal fabrication and assembly operations, preferably in a comparable manufacturing environment.Experience in knowledge of die construction, tooling components and capabilities preferred.Experience with using metal working machines and measuring devices is desired. Experience with Solidworks, AutoCad, or other drafting software is desired.Experience in Additive Manufacturing (3-D printing) is desired.

Occasional travel involved, mainly travelling between the Lanark and Freeport plants as needed.     

The compensation range(s) identified below are a good faith estimate of the salary expected to be paid as performed from these locations. Actual salaries may vary based on compensable factors including but not limited to skillset, experience, education and training, and other relevant business and organizational factors. Most candidates will start in the lower half of the range.

The range for this position is $21.23 - 27.60/hour.
