Tooling Specialist – Purchasing (Prototype & Production Tooling)

Location: Mexicali, Mexico (travel to Bosch locations and suppliers in Mexico and USA required)

Job Summary

Bosch is seeking a Tooling Specialist – Purchasing to manage Bosch-owned prototype and serial production tooling used to manufacture plastic, casting, and stamped components. Such tooling is typically located at suppliers in Mexico and the USA and is used by suppliers to produce components for Bosch.

This position combines technical expertise, understanding for cost drivers, and commercial negotiation, working closely with Engineering, Bosch plants, and suppliers to ensure robust tooling concepts, fast tool builds, cost transparency, and stable serial production performance.

Key Responsibilities
• Support concept phase of new tooling, partnering with Engineering and suppliers to evaluate and optimize tooling concepts
• Drive tool build lead times, including escalation and structured problem solving when issues occur
• Coordinate and manage tool repairs, refurbishments, replacements, and tool changes
• Prepare should-cost calculations and lead tooling price negotiations with suppliers
• Support tooling-related issues in serial production (technical issue resolution and performance improvement)
• Track and report tooling budget status and cost forecasts
• Continuously improve tooling-related purchasing processes, governance, and standards
 

 

QualificationsBachelors degree in a related engineering field

We are looking for a team player, who is pro-active, self-driven, well organized, and comes with excellent communication skills.

• Experience in tooling management and/or tooling purchasing (prototype and serial tooling)
• Strong knowledge of manufacturing/tooling (injection molding, stamping, aluminum tooling preferred)
• Proven experience in supplier negotiation, cost breakdowns, and cross-functional teamwork
• Willingness to travel to Bosch locations and suppliers in Mexico and the USA

Professional proficiency in English and Spanish communication is needed for this job.
