Civil engineers have a variety of professional opportunities. Traffic engineering and transportation systems management operations (TSMO) are subsets of transportation engineering. Omaha’s Traffic/TSMO engineering section also supports traffic incident management (TIM). TIM is one of many Transportation Systems Management Operations (TSMO) strategies that leads our industry into the future with a focus on better operating and maintaining the infrastructure we have. We cannot design and build our way out of congestion. TIM also fits into safety projects as well through discussions on responder safety, the Safe System Approach/post-crash care, enforcement, and other safety topics. If traffic operations and safety interest you, this position is a good fit.

In the role of a TIM/TSMO Intern, we'll count on you to:

Gain real-world experience on exciting projects by applying standard engineering techniques and proceduresto support traffic/TSMO and TIM projectsWork under the guidance and direct supervision of a senior-level Engineer to assistwith researching TIM and TSMO industry trends and technologiesConnect with recent college graduates and our company leaders through mentoring and young professionals’ programsPerform other duties as needed such as developing real-world crash after-action review meeting agendas, PowerPoint content, notes, etc.

Preferred Qualifications

Prefer 1-2 years completed toward degree with 3.0 GPAInterest in using the softer side of Engineering skills and project managementPreference given to local candidatesA cover letter with your resume is highly recommendedRequired Qualifications
Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate Engineering program Attention to detailPossess strong problem-solving and communication skills Basic Microsoft Office skills An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
