Thoracic Surgery is a fast paced surgical stepdown unit with 6 PCU beds and 18 floor beds. We care for complex thoracic surgeries, including lung transplant, thoracotomy, esophagectomy, thymectomy, hiatal hernia repair. We are a Dedicated Education Unit, specializing in training nurses. This unit provides experience for nurses who are interested in promoting to critical care, including hemodynamic monitoring, IV drip titration, chest tube management and critical thinking skills. Preferred Qualifications Role Purpose Provides multi-skilled, direct patient care, under the direction and supervision of a registered professional nurse. This job requires completion of a foundational nursing skills course or equivalent (fundamentals, foundations, or adult/peds health. Responsibilities Assists nurse with patient and family education. Documents all patient care activities provided with correct medical terminology. Acts as 1:1 patient safety sitter as necessary. Ensures availability of supplies and equipment to meet each patient's needs. Implements direct patient care under the supervision of the nursing team. Collects clinical data and information on patients and reports abnormal findings to the nurse. Instructs patients in preparations for tests and procedures.
