Thermal Cycle Design Engineer - Steam Turbine R&D

Job summary:

We are looking for a dynamic and innovative Thermal Cycle Design Engineer to join our Steam Turbine R&D division, where advanced thermal power systems are developed for future energy solutions. The role involves conceptualization, modeling, and analysis of thermal cycles, with a focus on increasing efficiency, reducing emissions, and integrating modern steam turbine technologies into decarbonized and hybrid energy systems.

What will be my responsibilities?

Design and optimize innovative thermal cycles (e.g., advanced Rankine, supercritical CO2, reheat-regenerative cycles) for next-generation steam turbines. Conduct thermodynamic modeling and simulation using Commercial / Custom R&D tools. Collaborate with Turbomachinery Experts to translate cycle requirements into turbine performance targets. Develop cycle concepts for hybrid systems (e.g., thermal + solar, thermal + hydrogen, thermal + waste heat recovery, geothermal). Support experimental validation of cycle designs through test rigs or pilot-scale facilities. Evaluate thermodynamic and economic feasibility of new design ideas and cycle configurations. Engage as Thermal Lead in R&D programs with interface to mechanical design, materials, and controls teams and evaluate design trade-offs for cycle efficiency vs. cost, operability, component durability & emissions. Prepare technical research reports, publications, and patent documentation where applicable. Keep abreast of developments in clean energy technologies, carbon capture, and next-gen steam cycle applications.

What do I need to qualify for this job?

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Thermal Engineering, Power Engineering, or Energy Systems. (Preferably from Government Engineering College) 3–8 years of experience in thermal cycle design, preferably in a power generation R&D environment. Proficient in thermodynamic simulation and cycle analysis tools – This shall be the key assessment point. Solid understanding of steam turbine principles, component behavior, and power plant systems. Knowledge of materials and operational challenges under advanced steam conditions. Strong analytical, documentation, and presentation skills. Experience with supercritical or ultra-supercritical steam cycles, organic Rankine cycles, or combined cycle R&D shall be advantage. Familiarity with energy transition technologies (e.g., hydrogen co-firing, CCS, thermal energy storage). Exposure to experimental research, data acquisition, and prototype evaluation. Track record of technical publications, patents, or conference presentations.

Why Join Us

Be part of a cutting-edge R&D team driving innovation in thermal power. Work on clean, efficient, and hybrid thermal cycles for the future of sustainable power. Contribute to globally impactful projects in energy transition and steam turbine innovation. Competitive compensation and career development in a forward-looking engineering environment.
