Job Summary Job SummaryDescription: JSerra Catholic High School is looking for a qualified theology instructor to teach multiple courses within its Theology department for a teacher on leave. The ideal candidate for this position would be an individual who is committed to Christ and the sacraments, faithful to the teachings of the magisterium of the Catholic Church, skilled at communicating the faith in a classroom setting, and a role model for high-school-aged students. Applicants should have the ability to participate in shared decision making, team environment, have excellent oral and written communicative skills, and be proficient in technology. Responsibilities • Planning, preparing, and delivering lessons to 10- and 12-grade students in Scripture and Catholic Social Teaching • Assigning work, correcting and marking work carried out by his/her students • Assessing, recoding, and reporting on the development, progress, attainment, and behaviors of one’s students • Providing oral or written assessments, reports, and references relating to individual students • Communicating, consulting, and co-operating with other members of the school’s staff • Advising and cooperating with the Vice President of Mission and Faith, Theology Chair, and other teachers in the preparation course material, methods of teaching and assessment, and addressing of moral issues with students • Participating in department retreats, in-service education, and professional development courses • Participating in staff, group, or other meetings related to the school • Supervising students outside of the classroom, such as at lunchtime or during make-up assessments
View Job Description Requirements / QualificationsKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities • Intellectual knowledge of the Catholic faith and a personal relationship with Jesus Christ • Excellent interpersonal communication skills – both in writing and speaking • Proficiency in the development of lesson plans at the high school level • Agility in explaining moral issues to teens while connecting with them where they are • Ability to collaborate with colleagues in a professional learning community and adhere to curriculum planning and pacing • Proficiency in assessing student progress and maintaining accurate records via the school’s online grading program Education & Experience • Must be a devoted and practicing Catholic with a strong prayer life and commitment to the sacraments • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Catholic theology • Evidence of apostolic life in service to others for the spreading of the Gospel • Diocesan Catechist Certificate preferred • Prior high school teaching experience strongly desired
