Test Design Engineer
Job Title: Test Design Engineer Location: Bellevue, WA Type: Long-term Contract Contractor Work Model: Remote or Onsite Position Overview: We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Test Design Engineer to join our Instrumentation and Control (I&C) team. Reporting directly to the I&C Safety System Design Manager, you will play a critical role in the design, prototype development, testing, and integration of I&C systems for Sodium Fast Reactor technologies. This position offers an exciting opportunity to engage with a talented group of scientists and engineers on projects aimed at implementing Generation IV advanced nuclear reactor technologies. Key Responsibilities: + Collaborate with geographically diverse team members, both internal and external, to create comprehensive design documentation. + Serve as the I&C Engineer responsible for the design and development of I&C systems and subsystems, ensuring they meet functional requirements through to final design. + Provide leadership and direction to team members and assist the I&C Safety System Design Manager in overseeing project deliverables from internal colleagues and external partners. + Develop and review system and component-level specifications, scopes of work, and engineering evaluations, ensuring compliance with nuclear codes, regulations, and quality standards. + Specify suitable instrumentation measurement techniques for sodium fast reactors, including detailed analysis of measurement range, response time, and accuracy. + Analyze complex regulatory criteria and apply them effectively in I&C system designs. + Produce and oversee the creation of technical design documents, including System Requirements Documents, Engineering Design Specifications, Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), and control logic diagrams. + Manage design packages for key systems and subsystems, integrating I&C designs with other engineering disciplines to ensure cohesive project execution. + Liaise with the licensing team to support Safety Analysis Reports and related activities. + Support continuous improvement initiatives by utilizing nuclear industry best practices and identifying opportunities for design process enhancements. Key Qualifications and Skills: + Bachelor’s degree or higher in Controls, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline from an accredited university, with 6-10 years of direct experience in instrumentation and control systems. + Proven experience in I&C development and diagnostics, particularly within the nuclear safety systems or instrumentation domain is preferred. + Familiarity with industry standards such as IEEE 379, IEEE 603, and design control practices under nuclear quality assurance (e.g., 10 CFR 50 Appendix B) is desirable. + Experience with high-temperature process design (400°C and above) is a plus, along with a working knowledge of process flow diagrams (PFD) and P&IDs. + Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks) for delivering design outputs. + Strong technical writing, communication, and presentation skills; attention to detail with an aspiration for technical excellence. + Self-motivated with the ability to lead a design team with minimal supervision and manage multiple projects simultaneously. + A solid background in formal I&C system startup testing procedures is desirable but not required. Travel Requirements: 0-5% Physical Requirements: Sitting and/or standing for extended periods, minimal physical exertion, ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
