Description of Work Unit
The Department of Human Development and Family Studies is one of eight academic programs in the College of Health and Human Sciences. Colorado State University is Colorado’s land grant institution and holds the Doctoral/Research University – Extensive classification from the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education. Affiliated with CSU’s Marriage and Family Therapy ( MFT Program and the Center for Family and Couple Therapy ( CFCT ) in the Department of Human Development and Family Studies, the Child Trauma and Resilience Assessment Center ( CTRAC ) serves as a local, state, and regional child trauma assessment center.

Position Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Qualitative Data Research Assistant to support research activities involving qualitative data logging, organization, and coding. The ideal candidate will have prior experience in data management, transcription, and thematic analysis using inductive and deductive approaches. This role is critical to ensuring the integrity and accessibility of multilingual qualitative data collected across diverse contexts.
This position is ideal for individuals seeking to gain hands-on experience in qualitative research. It offers valuable exposure to data collection, transcription, and coding practices, and is especially suited for those considering graduate education or a career in qualitative or social science research.
This position is designed to support your growth as a researcher. Team members will receive mentorship from experienced researchers in qualitative methods, data analysis, and research design. Members will be trained in transcription tools, qualitative coding software MAXQDA , and multimodal analysis techniques. Members will have the opportunity to design their own research questions using the cleaned dataset, prepare and submit abstracts for conference presentations. Members will be invited to contribute to manuscript writing for publication, with appropriate authorship credit. This role is ideal for individuals looking to deepen their engagement with qualitative research and build a strong foundation for graduate studies or a research-focused career.
Position Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must be available to work 8-10 hours per week for the next 6 months and to extend the position for a full year if needed. Candidates must have access to high-speed internet, a reliable computer, and complete CITI certificate research training. Candidates must demonstrate experience and competence in the following areas:
+ Strong organizational and Collaborative Skills
+ Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple data streams.
+ ·emonstrate ability to manage time effectively and meet weekly task expectations. The role requires completion of a minimum of three video logs and corresponding transcriptions per week, with consistent attention to formatting, quality, and deadlines.
+ Experience collaborating with interdisciplinary or multilingual and multicultural research teams.
Data Management
+ Ability to log, organize, and maintain quantitative or qualitative data from diverse sources (e.g., images, videos, interviews, focus groups, typed and handwritten field notes).
+ Experience implementing structured file organization systems and maintaining version control.
+ Ability to transcribe and produce documentation from video and audio from multilingual contexts with durations of 2-4 hours with more than 90% accuracy.
+ Familiarity with transcription tools and practices that ensure confidentiality and data integrity.
Language Proficiency
+ Fluency in English and one additional language including: Spanish, French, and/or Ghanaian dialects (e.g., Twi, Fante, Ewe, Ga) is strongly preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
Qualitative Coding and Analysis Experience:
+ Experience conducting thematic coding using inductive, deductive, and hybrid approaches. Including coding qualitative data for gestures, linguistic features, interaction styles, emotional expressions, and observable behaviors. Familiarity with multimodal analysis frameworks and attention to nonverbal cues is strongly preferred.
+ Ability to develop and refine codebooks collaboratively with research teams.
+ Familiarity with qualitative analysis software (e.g., MAXQDA ).
