(http://cpw.state.co.us/) Description of Job This fish hatchery is located in Northwest Colorado, south of Carbondale. The hatchery raises and stocks several cold-water species including rainbow, and cutthroat trout. This position begins in mid September of 2025 (start and end date are negotiable). This position will consist of working up to 40 hours per week. Hours of operation are 7:00 am to 3:30 pm M-F. Housing may be available. In general, this position is designed to assist with the day-to-day operations of full-time hatchery staff. This is an excellent opportunity to receive hands on experience and training in the aquaculture field. Specific duties include but are not limited to: + Fish Culture: Assists with all aspects of fish culture including: Netting, weighing, counting, sorting, spawning, egg handling, disinfecting, repairing equipment, and precise record keeping. Daily feeding of fish in both indoor and outdoor environments. Daily cleaning of indoor hatchery troughs and weekly cleaning of outdoor raceways. + Fish Distribution: Assists with all stocking efforts including: Vehicle inspections, loading fish on hauling trucks, water quality testing at receiving waters, netting and manually carrying fish. May be asked to drive and operate fish hauling trucks. + Grounds & Building Maintenance: Assists with the overall upkeep and cleanliness of the property including: Weed whacking, mowing with a push and ride on mower, trimming trees and brush, pressure washing, fence repair, digging, posting signs, carpentry work, trash and recycling disposal, painting, operating hand tools, and light automotive repairs. + Other Duties as Assigned: Examples of these include: Assisting with tours to the public, assisting Area Aquatic Biologists with projects. Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights BASIC REQUIREMENTS: + Must be 18 years of age or older. + Must have a current and valid drivers’ license, and must have reliable transportation to and from work. + The work-site will provide some uniform items and personal protective equipment, but employees may be required to purchase limited uniform items themselves. + Must be willing and able to work up to 40 hours per week. + Must be able to work various shifts, weekends and holidays. + Must be willing and able to work outdoors, and at times during adverse weather conditions at high altitude. + Successful completion and passing of background screening may be required for placement in this position. + Must be able to lift 50 pounds throughout the course of a single workday. + Must be able to find housing in or near Carbondale, which is a high cost of living area. + Fish culture or aquatic biology experience preferred. + Power tools and equipment experience preferred. + Preference may be given to applicants with or working towards a Natural Resources Degree. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This position will perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling heavy materials.
