Employment Category Temporary Job Summary This recruitment will be used to fill one full-time Temporary Laboratory Technician 1 position for the College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences at Oregon State University ( OSU ). This position fulfills the need of existing grant/contract requirements to provide complementary temporary laboratory support for principal investigators (PIs) in the College of Earth, Ocean, & Atmospheric Sciences ( CEOAS ) and College of Agricultural Sciences ( CAS ). Key Responsibilities The primary job duties include the following: + 15%: Tracking and maintaining inventory of laboratory and field equipment. + 25%: Testing of oceanographic instrumentation and preparation for field deployments. + 40%: Operation of laboratory and calibration equipment, following written procedures. + 20%: Production of reports on laboratory instrumentation usage and quality as well as reports on testing data collection and results. In all duties, work collaboratively with fellow lab members and PIs to contribute to a safe, welcoming, and respectful working environment. What We Require One year of experience in a laboratory setting and high school courses in chemistry, biology, mathematics, or any course which included laboratory work; OR An equivalent combination of training and experience. NOTE : An Associate’s degree in Laboratory Science may substitute for the required experience. What You Will Need + Demonstrated effective communication skills + Demonstrated ability to work effectively and professionally with a wide range of individuals and to contribute to a safe, respectful, and welcoming workplace environment. What We Would Like You to Have + Prior experience with ocean biogeochemical and optical in situ instrumentation. Working Conditions / Work Schedule Typical work schedules are from 9am to 5pm. Work outside of the normal working hours may be occasionally needed, including working on weekends. Typical working environment is a laboratory setting. Ability to lift 30lbs is needed.
