The Idaho State Department of Agriculture is currently recruiting for six (6) temporary Hops Laboratory Technicians in the Hops Lab for the Bureau of Food Safety, Hemp, and Hops. This is a temporary position with up to 40 hours a week and may include holidays and weekends. This position has an approximate start date of August 18, 2025, and ends approximately October 24, 2025. This position does not have benefits. The hired Hops Laboratory Technician will work a maximum of 40 hours a week. This may include working holidays and weekends with potential for overtime. Any overtime will be pre-approved by the supervisor. During most weeks, Hop Laboratory Technicians will be required to work five, eight-hour days from approximately 7:00am – 3:00pm. Hops Laboratory Technicians will be scheduled five days between Monday through Friday. SPECIAL NOTIFICATION:This non-classified position is exempt from classified state service and the rules of the Division of Human Resources and the Idaho Personnel Commission. Example of Duties INITIAL TRAINING: + Checking in samples by filling out ISDA lab and USDA hop forms. + Use a mechanical divider to separate hops into representative samples for leaf, stem and seed analysis. + Use of mechanical vibratory station to sieve leaf and stem components. + Prepare seed sample by baking, grinding, sifting then counting the number of seeds. + Identify leaf stem and seed components. + Using an analytical scale to weigh and then calculate leaf, stem and seed percentages. + Complete hop analysis paperwork including percentage calculations. + Package Hop retention sample for each lot. + Pack and prepare hops inspection supplies for field staff. + Maintain a clean and efficient workspace. Minimum Qualifications These qualifications are mandatory requirements + Ability to use magnifying tools. + Possessing fine motor skills to separate Hops materials. + Wearing a face mask in the presence of fine air particulates. + Being exposed to strong plant smells. + With or without reasonable accommodation, physical ability to: + Sitting for long prolonged periods of time. + Work in extreme cold and heat, wet and humid environments around dirt, fumes, poorly ventilated areas, noise and orders. + Collect, lift and carry samples weighing up to 25lbs with or without a reasonable accommodation. + Intermittently bend, squat, twist, and reach above shoulder level.
