SUMMARY: This position is assigned to Public Safety Communications (PSC), a bureau functioning within the Idaho Military Division (IMD). The primary purpose of this position is to assist in the operation and maintenance of sophisticated electronic telecommunications equipment of PSC programs and projects including the statewide microwave system, two way radio repeaters, two way mobile and portable radios, interconnecting wires, cables, fiber optic and any other equipment necessary for the efficient and effective operations of PSC systems, and all associated support equipment and services for the agencies, departments, and divisions of the State of Idaho. The positions within this classification are interchangeable, with each having assignment to a geographically defined district within the State of Idaho.

MILITARY DIVISION MANDATORY QUESTIONS:

MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS:
(1) Must have and maintain a valid and unrestricted state issued driver’s license (from any state). Provide your driver’s license number, issuing state, license expiration date, and the full name specified on the license. (Do not provide a copy of your driver’s license.)
(2) Travel is required for training and job performance. Must be willing to travel by all modes of transportation and stay at destinations for moderate to extended periods.
(3) Must have, or be eligible to obtain, and maintain a favorable NACI/T1 Federal Background Investigation. If a selected candidate does not have a current favorable NACI/T1, as a condition of employment he/she must submit to the investigation process immediately upon hire/appointment.
(4) Must be physically able to walk, hike, and travel across remote areas, at elevations up to 10,000 feet; work on ladders, raised work platforms, or towers up to 50 feet high, and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS:
(1) Formal training in two-way radio and electronics basic rules and theory documented by a radio certificate from industry or government agency or a technical/vocational school certificate.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: Must have 18 months of experience performing work related to the knowledge requirements below.Submit a paragraph for each knowledge requirement below that demonstrates the required experience and describes competence in applying the knowledge. Education and training may be used to offset experience.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
(1) Describe your knowledge and experience with radio communication systems including configuration and installation of microwave equipment, and the installation, troubleshooting, programming, licensing, and maintenance of land mobile radios, and other equipment in fixed tower locations or automotive installation and other portable configurations.
(2) Describe your knowledge and experience with safety practices related to radio frequency systems, general electronic equipment, general electrical applications, remote location and back country activities, basic wilderness survival, climbing harnesses, off-road/all-terrain vehicle operations (wheels, tracks, and skis), and the ability to recognize associated hazards.
(3) Describe your knowledge and experience with electronic and electrical wiring diagrams, wiring principles, system schematics, and the operation, maintenance, and calibration of complex testing equipment sufficient to receive and implement remote technical guidance or to independently install, remove, troubleshoot, and test equipment in remote areas.
(4) Describe your knowledge and experience in the use of four-wheel drive vehicles, all-terrain vehicles, snowmobiles, electrical hand tools, ladders and other elevated work platforms, and trailering and towing in all types of conditions.
(5) Describe your knowledge and experience with work/task management best practices, including establishing goals, interpersonal and organizational communication, and knowledge of common computer software, i.e. Microsoft applications.
