**What's the Role**
The **Contruction** **Technician** position in **Grand Bahama** is responsible for the construction and maintenance of Outside Plant (OSP) infrastructure, including underground and aerial deployments of copper and fiber optic cable networks. The **Construction Technician** plays a critical role in building new access network infrastructure and ensuring the long-term integrity of existing systems. The role includes proactive construction activities, reactive maintenance tasks, and support for service restoration and network expansion efforts. The Technician ensures all work is performed in accordance with safety, quality, and technical standards to deliver reliable telecommunications services to customers.
**What You'll Do**
**Essential Duties and Responsibilities:**
+ **Construct and Install OSP Infrastructure** – Perform underground trenching, duct installation, pole mounting, fiber and copper cable placement, and related civil works to build new outside plant network facilities.
+ **Splicing and Termination** – Execute fiber and copper splicing, including use of fusion splicers and test equipment to ensure connectivity and compliance with signal standards.
+ **Install Network Components** – Install and configure handholes, pedestals, cabinets, terminals, and aerial support structures as part of OSP builds or upgrades.
+ **Read and Interpret Network Plans** – Understand and work from construction prints, design maps, and network diagrams to accurately build according to engineering specifications.
+ **Perform Preventive Maintenance** – Conduct inspections and maintenance on active outside plant equipment and physical infrastructure to identify and address potential issues before service is impacted.
+ **Respond to Service Issues** – Support field response to damaged or degraded plant due to weather, accidents, or degradation; restore services quickly and document resolutions.
+ **Ensure Worksite Safety** – Follow all relevant occupational safety guidelines and ensure job sites are safe and compliant with regulatory requirements.
+ **Coordinate with Teams** – Work closely with engineering, service delivery, and network operations teams to complete builds, upgrades, and repairs in a timely and efficient manner.
+ **Use Test Equipment** – Operate OTDRs, optical power meters, TDRs, and other diagnostic tools to validate and troubleshoot installations.
+ **Maintain Records and Reports** – Accurately document construction and maintenance work, including material usage, as-built changes, and testing results.
+ **Support Network Expansion Projects** – Participate in special projects aimed at expanding fiber reach or modernizing the legacy copper plant.
+ **Maintain Tools and Vehicles** – Ensure all assigned tools, vehicles, and safety equipment are properly maintained and ready for use.
**What You'll Need**
+ 2 - 4 years experience in the industry of cable construction.
+ Exposure to working with fiber handling, splicing and working on poles.
+ High School Diploma at a minimum - Bachelors Degree in Electronics is a plus
+ Relevant Certifications
