Technical Writer Illustrator

Creates clear, accurate user and developer documentation across manuals, installation guides, API references, specs, and online help.

Job Requirements

2+ years technical writing for software, hardware, or platforms

Proficiency with docs-as-code workflows (Markdown/AsciiDoc, Git)

Experience producing API documentation (OpenAPI/Swagger, Postman, GraphQL schemas)

Ability to learn complex systems and translate into task-based procedures and references

Tooling familiarity: Sphinx, Docusaurus, MkDocs, or DITA/XML; diagramming with Mermaid/PlantUML/Visio

Working knowledge of information architecture, versioning, and release notes

Experience collaborating with engineering, product, and support to capture source content

Portfolio of shipped documentation sets or equivalent writing samples

Preferred Skills

CMS/Wiki experience (Confluence, SharePoint) and search/IA optimization

Developer tooling exposure (CLI, SDKs, IDE extensions) and basic code literacy (JSON, YAML, shell)

Screenshot/illustration and light media production (Snagit, Figma, Illustrator)

Localization readiness and terminology/glossary management

Automation for docs pipelines (CI/CD, static checks, link validators, linting)

Job Responsibilities

Develop and maintain user manuals, install guides, API references, technical specifications, and online help

Research, outline, write, and edit content by partnering with engineering and product to define requirements

Gather information from subject-matter experts; create procedure manuals, specs, and process documentation

Establish and maintain documentation repositories; organize source, revise content, and centralize storage

Design information architecture and reusable templates that meet organizational and regulatory standards

Maintain consistent voice/tone and structure across alternative media for usability

Implement doc quality controls: style guides, linters, reviews, and versioned releases

Track feedback and metrics to prioritize maintaining documents; manage multiple documentation projects in parallel



Pay Details: $29.00 to $39.00 per hour
