Technical Services Technician - Smyrna, GA
Position Summary:
The Technical Services Technician is responsible for supporting customers and Smurfit Westrock field technicians via the technical service telephone line, developing electrical upgrade kits for obsolete controls components, assisting machinery manufacturing with machine configuration and configuring electrical replacement parts for shipment to customer. This position requires in-depth knowledge of electrical and motion control systems & components, excellent troubleshooting skills, and experience assisting customers remotely.
Key Responsibilities:
Respond to technical support requests via telephone, email and text messageDiagnose and resolve machinery hardware, software and network issuesUp to 30% of travel may be required to diagnose & repair machinery Configuring electrical components prior to shipment to customerDocumenting technical service calls and training AI modelsWiring and testing PLC’s, servo drives/controllers, safety relays/controllers, VFDs and HMIsAssist in developing field machinery upgrade kits including wiring and programmingParticipate in programming, testing and installation of machinery in testing linesCreate technical bulletins, procedures and troubleshooting guidesRemotely troubleshoot servo systems, PLC code and HMI applicationsFollows all Smurfit Westrock safety protocols in addition to following state and federal safety laws and regulationsPerform field machinery electrical upgradesQualifications:
5+ years experience in PLC programming, servo systems, HMI development software and safety controllers Troubleshooting/setup experience on pneumatic components, vision systems, VFDs, sensors, hot glue systems, safety devicesExperience working on/troubleshooting 480/230 volt AC systemsExperience with multi-axis servo-driven equipment including AB and RexrothAbility to work on multiple projects simultaneouslyProfessional English (reading, writing, and speaking)Ability to create and maintain virtual machines on PC Ability to cover weekly rotational 24/7 technical support lineSetting up and troubleshooting machine Ethernet/ProfiNet networksWiring & troubleshooting experience on safety circuits, motor controls and 24-volt control circuitsExperience with hot glue systems preferredSelf-motivated and ability to work independently
