Job Summary:

As part of the Large Electric Power Product Group, the Technical Sales Support team is the direct interface to our dealers & customers.  The Engineering Manager role will lead the global team responsible for the sales of LEPS gensets in complex applications.  The role includes development of product and market strategies while managing a team of Dealer/Customer facing professionals who are responsible for generating concept designs & commercial offerings.  The organization is the dividing line & perfect location for those interested in both technical & commercial aspects of the LEPS business. 

What you will do:

Lead a dealer and customer-facing team of Solution Sales Consultants, Account Managers, Engineering Managers, and Sales Support Engineers. Train, develop, and mentor team members, focusing on professional growth and performance. Monitor and review the work of subordinates to ensure quality and alignment with business goals.

Work across a matrix organization to foster a culture of being “Easy to do business with.” Liaise between field teams and factory operations to ensure alignment and communication. Collaborate with peer groups in technical sales support, engineering, project management, and operations.

Forecast revenue, volume, and AVM reporting to support business planning. Manage and improve internal processes for operational efficiency. Support adjacent territory and global account sales teams.

Provide marketing input for product development and functional specifications.  Develop and implement product introduction strategies and monitor customer acceptance. Represent the company at industry associations, dealer/customer presentations, and factory visits.

Providing custom solutions for customer needs for electric power products

Monitoring, maintaining & developing technical information to guide dealer and customers on electric power applications

Providing leadership to create and maintain processes used to design, develop and manufacture components, systems, products, services, and technologies.

Managing engineering product and manufacturing process or quality issues, from concept through commissioning.

Ensure commercial offerings meet customer specifications and are profitable. Guide the team in interpreting complex customer documents and crafting tailored solutions.

Understand complex commercial and technical issues that impact the business. Ensure new product programs meet market needs through collaboration with multi-functional teams.

Develop marketing and training materials to support solution promotion strategies.

What you will have: 

Planning: Tactical, Strategic: Extensive experience and knowledge of effective planning techniques and ability to contribute to operational (short term), tactical (1-2 years) and strategic (3-5 years) planning in support of the overall business plan.

Demonstrates the value and necessity of linking tactical plans to overall strategic plan.

Ensures attention to the detail and dependencies of existing departmental-level plans.

Plans for allocation of resources in line with unit goals, technical and business objectives.

Technical Excellence: Extensive experience and knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.

Coaches others in promoting, defining, analyzing, and providing superior technical solutions to business problems.

Assumes accountability for personal technical performance and holds others responsible for theirs.

Experience and understanding of genset loading, load profiles, and the application of standby generation.

Managing People: Extensive experience and knowledge of processes involved in managing people; ability to lead successful teams, and diligently address issues related to performance and conflicts at the workplace.

Anticipates and manages difficult interpersonal situations and conflicts; resolves them to mutual satisfaction.

Consults within the team; seeks inputs from subordinates and considers all views while making decisions.

Works collaboratively with people from diverse backgrounds; understands their needs and perspectives.

Influencing Through Expertise: Extensive experience and knowledge of effective influencing tactics and strategies; ability to use these to deepen own expertise and impact or challenge decisions within and outside own organization.

Degree Requirement:

Requires a degree in an accredited Engineering

Additional Information:

This position is located in Lafayette, Indiana and requires 5 day on-site availability

Domestic travel up to 25% & minimal international travel is required.

Domestic relocation assistance is available for this position.

Summary Pay Range:

$156,000.00 - $234,000.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
