The Work Package Manager (WPM) manages and coordinates internal multi-disciplined teams, including internal and external parties across the full engineering design lifecycle to deliver the assigned work package.
KEY ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
As a Technical Project Manager, you are accountable for:
Work Package Organisation and Planning:
Develop Work Package DescriptionIdentify deliverables, milestones and interdependencies with other WP’sEstablish the schedule and the estimates based on a viable solution, and identify the necessary resources and their availabilityInitialise the risk and opportunity register and the work package baseline using the relevant key project tools Where applicable obtain commitments from suppliersWork Package Launch:
Establish a detailed schedule which is aligned with the project master schedule working closely with PMODefine the cost structure, resource profiles, supplier selection and the relevant metrics to monitor the WPWrite relevant plans within the WP scopeWork Package Execution:
Achieve the objectives of the Work Package and take the necessary management actions to correct any deviation from the baseline or objectivesEnsuring the on time and within budget delivery of work package’s deliverablesIdentifying and solving issues, managing the risks and opportunities and performing mitigation activitiesChange management including assessing the impact, and overseeing the creation of technical proposals, whitepapers, formal contract variations and internal change requestsWork Package Monitoring, Control and Reporting:
Monitor & consolidate all deliverablesUpdate the schedule, risk & opportunities register, the ETC & EACConsolidate the work package dashboard and lead progress meetingsPeriodic reporting of the work package to customers, internal stakeholders and the project team including the status of the schedule, scope, cost, quality, risk and procurementQuality of Deliverables:
The WPM is responsible for the quality of the delivered products, services and documentation within the project committed time and budget and in the scope of the work packageThe WPM ensures that all configuration items within the WP scope are managed (could be done by a configuration manager)Key Stakeholder Relations:
Liaising with Engineering Delivery Managers, Project Managers & Functional heads to ensure coherence of schedule and deliverablesLead the team and/or suppliers involved to perform the work package and ensures the respect of all commitmentsParticipate and input to all relevant project reviewsManage subcontractors and contingent labourCapture of Lessons Learned:
The WPM must collect, analyse and synthesise the strengths and weaknesses during the performance of the work package, propose recommendations for improvement and record these as prescribed in the PMPWork Package Closure:
The WPM must ensure that all the commitments taken in his work package description sheet have been honoured by collating all WP data, costs and estimates, recording them and then organise a closure review
KEY KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
To be successful in your role, you will have demonstrated and/or acquired the following knowledge and experience:
Qualifications
Degree or equivalent experience in Engineering, Computer Science, IT or other relevant fieldsProject Management qualification and/or certification (PMBOK preferred)Essential Experience
Previous experience in delivering software centric mission critical or high availability IT systems and networked computer infrastructure in a safety critical environmentUnderstanding of Earned Value Management, Work Package Control and reporting, with exposure to scheduling tools (MS Project, Primavera etc.)Financial / budgetary management of engineering work packages or tasksAdvanced reporting and stakeholder management skillsStrong customer engagement and negotiation skillsSolid experience of leading and mentoring teams of 3-10 peopleExperience in negotiating with suppliersCollaboration tools including Jira, Confluence etc.Desirable:
