The Amex Digital Labs team drives innovation at American Express by originating, incubating, and managing products and platforms that are essential to our customers’ digital lives. We are a fast-paced team that leverages emerging technologies to develop digital payment and financial services products and engaging Membership experiences for Card Members. We often collaborate with technology companies and strategic partners to bring products to market. We are looking for a Technical Product Manager to help with the conception, build, and evolution of consumer-facing Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers. These MCP servers will be used to enable agentic Membership experiences for Amex Card Members within AI/LLM partner channels. This role brings together AI technology, developer tools, and the work required to make sure consumer-facing products are reliable, secure, and trustworthy. It will require working closely with the engineering teams that will deploy these MCP servers, the Product Managers and business stakeholders who own the internal systems that power Membership experiences today, the business development teams that manage relationships with partner LLMs, and the go-to-market teams that navigate the approval processes necessary to launch products. **Primary responsibilities:** + Partner deeply with engineering teams to understand and develop a perspective on how to apply emerging technologies (e.g., Model Context Protocol, Agent-to-Agent Protocol) to create Membership experiences within consumer LLM platforms for Amex Card Members + Work with engineering and internal business teams to determine the scope of the Amex MCP servers (e.g., read-only contexts vs. write actions, synchronous vs. asynchronous context, streaming vs. snapshot) + Partner with internal business and platform teams to catalogue, permission, and prepare assets and capabilities for use within LLMs by defining tool schemas, metadata, access controls, and lifecycle rules (i.e., versioning, deprecation) + Balance the needs of customers, internal stakeholders, leadership, and partners to define product features, user stories, evaluation criteria, user experience, roadmap, and backlog + Collaborate with internal stakeholders such as Legal, Compliance, and Risk teams to develop and adhere to data governance principles to ensure American Express assets and data are surfaced in a compliant and responsible way + Partner with engineering teams to define product requirements for auditability and traceability of context usage, and for abuse prevention and rate limiting + Evaluate LLM-based experiences that use Amex’s proprietary assets to ensure accuracy, appropriate orchestration, and adherence to guardrails + Define and monitor metrics around adoption, usage, retention, error rates, latency, integration failures, etc. for the MCP servers and the enabled agentic Membership experiences + Set and supervise development/release timelines, navigate intricate dependencies, and communicate impacts to partners + Serve as the internal MCP subject matter expert, clearly articulating MCP concepts, design decisions, and trade-offs to senior leadership and cross-functional stakeholders to drive alignment and informed decision-making + Drive the design and evolution of MCP servers at Amex to support multiple concurrent use cases at scale, balancing flexibility with standardization and operational reliability **Minimum Qualifications:** + Passion for technology with a clear customer focus; strong communication skills and the ability to provide clarity and direction across teams + 4 years’ experience in technical product development/management or software engineering in AI, or partner-enabled Membership experiences + Deep understanding of AI concepts (e.g. transformer models, grounding, reasoning, agents, etc.) + Strong working knowledge of technologies relevant to building third-party integrations such as OAuth and Software Development Kits (SDKs) + Enthusiasm for exceptional products and services; deep customer empathy, familiarity with customer research methods, keen product intuition, and ability to articulate product functionality + Builds relationships quickly; secures buy-in and influences key stakeholders + Recognizes issues quickly and drives resolution through creative, efficient problem-solving + Curious and entrepreneurial; learns how things work to make connections and find opportunities; moves fluidly between strategy and detail + Creative within a highly regulated financial-services environment + Team player, comfortable with ambiguity, and highly organized **Qualifications** Salary Range: $103,750.00 to $174,750.00 annually bonus benefits The above represents the expected salary range for this job requisition.
