Our Ireland Water team have a vacancy in our Dublin office for a Technical Director with experience in leading delivery of water and/or wastewater engineering schemes.
This role is a cornerstone position within AECOM’s UK & Ireland Water business. It combines strategic leadership, technical oversight, and business development to drive growth, innovation, and excellence in water infrastructure services.
The successful candidate will be joining a growing team of over 160 Water staff on the island of Ireland that are actively involved in the delivery and services to a range of both local and national clients, with projects at all phases of delivery. You will be part of the supporting management team and play a pivotal role fostering client relationships, leading opportunities, mentoring high-performing teams, and ensuring commercial success.
Here’s what you’ll do:
Client Relationship Management: Serve as a trusted advisor to our key client Uisce Éireann, fostering long-term partnerships and strengthening relationships founded on delivery excellence. Proactively engage, identifying opportunities for cross-selling and expanding AECOM’s services.Technical Oversight: Lead a team of multi-disciplinary engineers to deliver integrated designs, ensuring compliance with standards, safety, and quality. Providing high-level technical expertise and direction for complex projects throughout feasibility, design, planning, tender and construction stages. Champion innovation and digital solutions to deliver efficiency for our clients.Strategic Growth & Business Development: Drive business development through proactive engagement and secure new opportunities to continue our pipeline growth and expand AECOM’s footprint in the Ireland Water sector. Prepare detailed proposals, client briefs and fee proposals, with ability to lead bids.Team Management: Lead, mentor, and manage regional staff, including associates and senior engineers, to ensure high performance. Promote a collaborative and innovative team culture, encouraging continuous improvement and development. Establish strong working relationships with other internal teams across AECOM’s business lines including Environment, Energy, Planning, Landscape.Enjoy the Perks.

QualificationsReady to push the limits of what’s possible?
Here’s what we’re looking for:
Professional recognition as a Chartered Civil Engineer.Substantial experience in a senior leadership role within a consultancy or contracting environment.Proven track record of operating within the island of Ireland and a strong understanding of the water industry and our key client, Uisce Éireann.Strong business acumen, financial management capabilities, and exceptional communication skills. A solid track record of working on projects of various size, scale and complexity, with experience in dealing directly with clients.Experience with engineering design and safety practices, and procedures for health & safety, design, and quality assurance.Supervising work, ensuring that it is carried out to an appropriate technical standard, co-ordinated across design disciplines and is managed to programme and budget.Demonstrated experience in business development and/or technical excellence.A history of successful bidding and development of long-term, trusted client relationships.Additional InformationWe celebrate diversity, including neurodiversity, and believe it enriches our team.
