Technical Business Analyst - Blockchain

Requisition ID: 260928

Join a purpose driven winning team, committed to results, in an inclusive and high-performing culture.

Scotiabank continues to be an industry leader for Payments technology and innovation. We have a history of safely leveraging new tools to enable new experiences for our customers, focusing on ensuring we protect their interests and goals. The result of this leads to modernization programs which aim to offer enriched information and transparencies to support the rapidly evolving payments community.

The Role

We are building next-generation digital asset and programmable payments infrastructure and are seeking a Technical Business Analyst to drive changes across payments, blockchain and digital asset operations.

This role operates at the intersection of traditional financial systems and decentralized technologies, including Ethereum-based networks (public and permissioned), Layer 1 and Layer 2 architectures, and emerging DeFi protocols.

The ideal candidate brings a POC-to-MVP-to-production mindset, working familiarity with token standards, custody models, and on-chain/off-chain integration patterns, and the ability to connect current-state payment, ledger, and operational models to tokenized deposit, stablecoin, and DeFi-adjacent capabilities. They will translate complex business, regulatory, and operational requirements into scalable solutions spanning core banking systems and blockchain-enabled platforms.

The Technical Business Analyst will work closely with product, engineering, architecture, risk, compliance, and operations teams to ensure solutions are production-ready, scalable, and aligned with enterprise governance while supporting controlled experimentation and innovation.

What You’ll Do:

Elicit, analyze, and document business, functional, and technical requirements across payments and digital asset initiatives, spanning POC through MVP to production. Translate business workflows, regulatory obligations, and operational controls into user stories, process models, and acceptance criteria. Document token lifecycle requirements (issuance, transfer, redemption, burn) and translate network design choices — permissioned vs public, Layer 1 vs Layer 2 — into business and control requirements. Analyze end-to-end transaction flows including settlement, on-chain/off-chain reconciliation, exception handling, and operational impacts. Partner with product, middleware, and blockchain engineering teams to ensure requirements are feasible, testable, and scalable, including wallet, custody, and key management integration. Collaborate with risk, compliance, legal, and operations stakeholders to align solutions with enterprise control frameworks, and support evaluation of DeFi patterns against enterprise risk. Support testing, release readiness, change management, and post-implementation validation; maintain documentation for operations, audit, and regulatory review.

What You'll Bring:

Minimum 5 years in a technology analyst role within financial services with a strong understanding of real-time payments, cross-border settlement, core banking integrations, and data flows, reconciliations, and operational controls. Working knowledge of Ethereum and EVM ecosystems, including trade-offs between permissioned and public networks and Layer 1 vs Layer 2. Familiarity with token standards (e.g., ERC-20, ERC-721, ERC-1400/3643), wallet and custody models, and on-chain transaction lifecycles. Experience working across technology, risk, compliance, and operations stakeholders. Ability to work within ambiguous requirements and operate within structured SDLC and change management frameworks in regulated environments.

Nice to Have:

Experience delivering initiatives on digital asset, blockchain, or tokenized deposits. Familiarity with DeFi protocols (lending, DEXs, staking) and enterprise applicability. Experience with institutional custody platforms and wallet infrastructure. Familiarity with regulatory testing, audit support, and issue remediation in initiatives under enhanced oversight.

What's in it for you?

You’ll join a team focused on building cloud platforms as products, enabling delivery teams across the enterprise rather than acting as a centralized gatekeeper or operating within a narrow delivery focus. This role offers exposure to a wide range of technologies, problem domains, and stakeholders.
