Technical AdministratorOverviewThe Technical Administrator is a critical role within our data centre environment, responsible for the comprehensive management, maintenance, and optimization of mission-critical infrastructure systems. This position serves as the technical backbone of our operations, ensuring the reliability, security, and performance of complex data centre systems that support business-critical applications and services. The ideal candidate will balance day-to-day operational management with strategic planning to maintain a robust, scalable, and secure technical environment while providing exceptional support to both internal teams and external stakeholders.
ResponsibilitiesAdminister and maintain computer systems, servers, and networks within a 24/7 data centre environmentInstall, configure, and upgrade hardware and software components across rack-mounted server systems and networking equipmentManage cooling systems, power distribution units (PDUs), and uninterruptible power supplies (UPS)Create and manage user accounts, access permissions, and security protocols for data centre accessMonitor environmental conditions including temperature, humidity, and airflow to ensure optimal equipment performanceTroubleshoot complex technical issues across physical and virtual infrastructure with minimal downtimeImplement robust security measures for physical and digital assets while ensuring compliance with industry standardsPerform regular system backups, disaster recovery testing, and business continuity proceduresDocument technical processes, maintain system inventories, and create comprehensive operational runbooksSupport end-users and stakeholders with technical questions and provide training on data centre protocolsMonitor system performance metrics and implement improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce energy consumptionCollaborate with cross-functional IT teams on infrastructure projects, migrations, and technology initiativesParticipate in on-call rotation to provide 24/7 emergency support for critical data centre operationsRequirementsBachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field2+ years of experience in technical administration within a data centre environmentStrong knowledge of operating systems (Windows, Linux) in server environmentsExperience with network administration, routing protocols, and security frameworksFamiliarity with database management, backup systems, and storage technologiesUnderstanding of data centre infrastructure including cooling, power, and physical securityExperience with infrastructure monitoring tools and alert management systemsExcellent problem-solving and analytical skills with ability to work under pressureStrong communication abilities and customer service orientation when dealing with stakeholdersAbility to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a high-availability environmentKnowledge of IT best practices, security standards, and data centre management principlesPreferred QualificationsTechnical certifications (Microsoft, CompTIA, Cisco, etc.)Data centre specific certifications (CDCP, DCCA)Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and hybrid infrastructureKnowledge of scripting languages (PowerShell, Python, Bash) for automationExperience with virtualization technologies and container orchestrationUnderstanding of ITIL principles and change management processesFamiliarity with energy efficiency practices in data centre operationsLocation:
