The Team

The newly formed Enterprise Technology Services (ETS) Control & Compliance, Process Risk Reduction & Enterprise Platforms (EP) Risk Advisory team drives operational risk excellence across the Enterprise. As American Express strengthens its Risk Management programs, this team partners with business and technology leaders to embed strong process governance, operational control, and risk intelligence across key areas of transformation.

You’ll support Global Loyalty & Benefits (GLB), Banking & Payments (B&P), Global Accounts Receivable (GAR), and Technology Business Enablement (TBE) — empowering these organizations to identify, manage, and mitigate risks effectively.

How You’ll Make an Impact

As a Risk and Control Manager, you will play a pivotal role in enabling process excellence and control maturity within the EP organization. You’ll drive risk awareness, process discipline, and control effectiveness across markets — influencing how we design, govern, and monitor risk across diverse operational and technology landscapes.

You will:

Champion process governance and standardization, ensuring key operational and technology processes are well-documented, controlled, and compliant with internal and regulatory expectations.Lead and coordinate cross-market projects, balancing priorities and timelines across global stakeholders.Conduct thematic risk analysis and identify opportunities for control uplift and process optimization.Facilitate risk assessments (e.g., RCSA) and quality assurance activities in alignment with evolving frameworks.Collaborate with business units and technology teams to identify risks early, embed mitigations, and address systemic root causes.Develop and deliver insightful reporting and analytics that communicate risk trends, emerging issues, and opportunities for improvement.Build strong cross-functional partnerships to foster a proactive, transparent, and sustainable risk culture.Demonstrate curiosity and a drive to develop expertise in regulatory frameworks and application control environments.

What You’ll Bring

Required Qualifications:

Strong project management experience, ideally managing initiatives across multiple markets or business units.Proven analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data, identify patterns, and recommend action.Excellent communication, collaboration, and influencing skills across diverse stakeholder groups.Demonstrated curiosity and learning agility — eager to grow expertise in regulatory frameworks, risk management, and process controls.Strong sense of ownership, accountability, and drive for continuous improvement.

Preferred Qualifications:

3+ years’ experience in Operational Risk Management, Process Governance, or related disciplines (Risk, Audit, or Control).Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management, or related field (advanced degrees or certifications such as PMP, CRISC, or CISA are advantageous).Experience facilitating risk assessments (RCSA), conducting control testing, or performing quality assurance reviews.Familiarity with process governance frameworks, control enhancement initiatives, and risk reporting methodologies.Experience in the financial services industry or other highly regulated environments.
