The Technician 2, HVAC/Refrigeration is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of the heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems/equipment. This role ensures these systems meet the stringent requirements of pharmaceutical manufacturing and storage environments. Additionally, this role is responsible for conducting regular inspections and preventative maintenance on HVAC/R systems to ensure they are operating within the required specifications.

Job Description

What You’ll Do

Performs routine, preventative, and corrective maintenance of the site’s heating, ventilation, air condition and refrigeration systems and equipment with limited supervisionReports complex HVAC issues to senior technicians, management, or plant engineeringOversees the installation of equipment, as requiredLeads small projects related to HVAC systems and cold roomsProvides recommendations to management to develop HVAC maintenance schedulesMentors or provides training to HVAC techniciansProvides input to develop maintenance and repair plans for HVAC systems and equipment, including cold roomsFollows all safety protocols and guidelinesRoutinely tests and certifies HEPA filters to prescribed scheduleAssists with maintaining contracts with external vendors, as neededConducts work adhering to system air balancing activities under the guidance of senior technicians or managementAssists site functions to qualify and maintain production ventilation and equipmentInteracts with vendors or other departments, contractors, and disciplines to schedule repairs, maintenance, etc.Completes specialized training programs for HVAC systemsWorks with Building Management Systems (BMS) monitoring program to trend and review specific data relating to HVAC systemsCollaborates cross-functionally with Utilities, Plant Engineering, and other support groupsAssists with revising and developing standard operating procedures (SOPs), as neededSupports site operations and emergency work orders during off-hours, as neededPerforms other duties, as assigned

Knowledge & Skills

Knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and building automation systemsStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsKnowledge of regulations and codes for HVAC workAbility to interpret blueprints and schematicsEffective communication, both written and oralAbility to lift and move heavy equipmentKnowledge of system air balancing activities required for clean room environments and pressure cascadesMust be able to support 24/7 manufacturing facility, including shift, on-call, and weekends

Required Skills and Certifications

High School Diploma/GED2-4 years of experience in HVAC maintenance and repairsCompletion of an apprenticeship program or vocational training in HVACUniversal Refrigerant Recovery Certification (EPA 608 Certification)

Preferred Skills and Certifications

Associate degree in mechanical, electrical, applied engineering or another relevant fieldPrior experience with industrial HVAC systemsPrior experience working in a GMP manufacturing environmentComputerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) or equivalent work order management experienceExperience with troubleshooting and repairing refrigerant systems, and testing and certifying HEPA filtersHVAC/Refrigeration Certification

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:

Will work in environment which may necessitate respiratory protection. May work in Mechanical/Production spaces that may require hearing protection and enrollment in a hearing conservation program. Will work in environment operating a motor vehicle or Powered Industrial Truck. Ability to discern audible cues.Ability to inspect or perform a task with 20/20 corrected vision, visual acuity, including distinguishing color.Ability to ascend or descend ladders, scaffolding, ramps, etc. Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time. 12 hoursAbility to sit for prolonged periods of time. 12 hoursAbility to conduct activities using repetitive motions that include writs, hands and/or fingers. Ability to conduct work that includes moving objects up to X pounds.  X 33 lbs.Ability to bend, push or pull, reach to retrieve materials from 18” to 60” in height, and use twisting motions. Will work in warm/cold environments. 0-110 F RangeWill work in outdoor elements such as precipitation and wind. Will work in small and/or enclosed spaces. Will work in heights greater than 4 feet.
