Team Manager Specialty Engineering
In Hengelo, The Netherlands, Thales develops advanced radar and combat management systems. The System Engineering department is responsible for the design of new products and for managing software and hardware development. Within this department, specialists from the Specialty Engineering team are dealing with the specification, analysis and design of generic system aspects such as Reliability/Availability/Maintainability-Human Factors (RAM-HF), diagnostics, data analytics (Maintenance Intelligence – MINT) and ElectroMagnetic Compatibility (EMC).
We are currently looking for a team manager to lead this Specialty Engineering team.
About the job
We are looking for a team manager to lead this team of specialists in a motivating and inspiring way. With your experience and knowledge, you are able to work closely with the team and ensure that they can perform their complex and diverse tasks efficiently and effectively.
The growing team currently consists of 15 specialists, divided into 3 sub-teams, RAM-HF, EMC and MINT, each having its own specialties and corresponding dynamics. These sub-teams are involved in product development of standard products, but also in deriving customer specific configurations to be delivered to our customers. Your team has a lot of internal customers: the entire Naval product organization in Hengelo and the project organization delivering to the external customers.
As Team Manager you are leading a highly skilled department and your primary tasks revolve around the performance of this department. For example, you will need to assess if there are enough skilled people in your team to be able to meet the demand? Is your team prepared for the next challenges ahead? How do you retain knowledge when team members transfer to another part of the organization? You will also work on capacity planning, coaching and development, budget management, and you will stay updated with respect to the status of your team’s expert areas to be able to initiate the necessary process improvements and changes.
You are part of the System Engineering Management Team and you will be reporting to the Head of Discipline System Engineering.
