Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

The Teacher I plans and implements the curriculum, supervision and management of the program and the classroom.  This position demonstrates the knowledge of the principles of growth and development of the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the children’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each child’s requirement relative to his or her age, specific needs and to provide care needed as described in the departmental policies and procedures

 

Essential Job Functions

Plans and implements educational activities for the assigned classroomSupervises play activities, meals, and rest timeRecords children’s daily activities and maintains daily student recordsMaintains open communication with parentsImplements positive, supportive methods of behavior managementPerforms functions to safeguard children’s wellness and safety along with reporting accidents and accurately reporting details on an incident report.Obtains certification and administers medication and documents sameDemonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the children servedMaintains classroom bulletin boards and parent information areasConducts parent teacher conferences. Maintains children’s portfoliosPrepares and arranges educational materials.Reports accidents and completes incident reports.Works with families of children with special needs related to child development or health and monitors the care plan with the teachers and the families. Reports/Escalates safety issues and concerns according to departmental guidelines, reports maintenance needs and follows up until resolution.Maintains classroom bulletin boards and parent information areas.Supervises Fire Drills. Conducts regular spot-checks to insure we are in compliance with the health and safety regulations.Assists direct reports with the coordination of special events and quarterly events related to the areas of oversight.

Work experience and training in supervising, as well as one year experience in providing care for children in a group setting is preferred.
