Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI) – In-Person Location: Chattanooga, TN Grade Levels: Elementary, Middle, or High School Setting: On-Site Only (No virtual/hybrid) Openings: 2 Start Date: ASAP (Estimated Start: February 9, 2026) Schedule: 37.5 hours/week Contract Duration: Through May 20, 2026 (approx. 16 weeks) Position Overview Amergis Staffing is seeking dedicated Teachers for the Visually Impaired (TVIs) to provide specialized instruction and support to students who are blind or visually impaired. TVIs serve as instructional leaders, case managers, and accessibility experts, ensuring students receive the academic, social, and communication supports needed to thrive. This position plays a critical role in adapting learning materials, teaching braille and assistive technology, and collaborating with educational teams to implement IEP accommodations across multiple school sites. Key Responsibilities + Design and implement lessons aligned with IEP goals for students with visual impairments. + Write, develop, and monitor IEP goals; collect and analyze student progress data. + Serve as case manager for visually impaired students; coordinate annual IEP meetings and ensure compliance. + Conduct assessments for students suspected of having visual impairments to determine eligibility for services. + Create and adapt instructional materials including large print, tactile graphics, and modified assignments. + Provide consultation to teachers, administrators, and staff regarding visual accommodations and student needs. + Train students and staff on assistive technology and specialized low-vision/braille devices. + Collaborate with educational teams to implement appropriate supports and accessibility solutions. + Travel between schools within the district to meet student needs (candidates must be comfortable with county-wide travel). + Ensure compliance with district, state, and federal laws, codes, and professional standards. Education, Experience & Qualifications + Valid Tennessee Teaching Certificate with Special Education Vision Pre-K–12 Endorsement (#462) + Minimum 1 year of experience in a school setting (required to submit) + Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university (preferred) + One year of experience as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (preferred) + Valid state-issued driver’s license + CPR certification if applicable + TB questionnaire/PPD/chest X-ray if applicable + Current health certificate (if required) + Must meet all state, federal, and district requirements + Must be at least 18 years of age + Ability to float to multiple schools across Hamilton County + Strong collaboration, communication, professionalism, and ability to support diverse learners Submission Requirements Required documents: + Resume + Special Education Vision Pre-K–12 Endorsement (#462) + Tennessee state teaching license + Email resume to Amanda at amalmand@amergis.com or text 813-261-4384 to schedule a call today!
