Tax Staff I (HYBRID-After Training is Completed)

JOB SUMMARY

The Tax Staff I is an entry level position that performs tax compliance and reporting for Baylor Scott & White Health and its affiliates including the preparation of federal income tax returns (corporate, partnership, and non-profit tax), state and local tax reports including franchise tax, sales, and use tax and/or property tax. This position will also assist in the preparation of community benefit reports and monitor other compliance requirements impacting the tax-exempt status of Baylor Scott & White Health and its tax-exempt affiliates. 

The Tax Staff I position will work closely with the Tax Manager to plan and maintain an efficient/timely tax compliance process, reduce overall tax risk, and ensure the delivery of high quality tax services. The position also includes work on special projects and other activities as needed or directed by the Tax Manager or the Vice President of Tax Services.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE

Prepares federal and state income tax returns (e.g. Forms 990, 990-T, 1120, 1120PC, 1065, and/or Franchise Tax).Includes gathering and compilation of data and preparation of workpapers and schedules to be incorporated into the returns. Includes the calculation and payment of quarterly tax estimates.Assists with various refund projects Includes sales tax refunds, unclaimed property refunds, and other tax credit or other incentive based refund projects.Assists in the preparation of the tax provision and related financial statement disclosures required under ASC 740 (FAS 109, FIN 48) and other tax related accounting standards.Assists with the management of the property tax matters. Includes compiling and gathering data and/or preparing property tax renditions, tax payments, exemption applications, and other related functions.Assists with the review and management of monthly sales and use tax reporting. Includes responding to notices, audit requests, and other related functions.Assists with special projects and other activities as needed or directed by the Tax Manager or the Vice President of Tax Services. Includes performing tax research and tax planning.

Performs other position appropriate duties as required in a competent, professional, and courteous manner.

 

KEY SUCCESS FACTORS
 

Position requires a level of knowledge normally acquired through the completion of a Master’s degree in tax accounting or a degree appropriate for obtaining a CPA certification.Experience in the area of taxation is preferred. Proficient computer skills with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and other Microsoft Office products experience required.Experience with CCH ProSystem Axcess or ProSystem Engagement, is a plus.

Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills necessary to interact with financial staff and other personnel throughout Baylor Scott & White Health and its affiliated entities.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION - Bachelor's Must be a completed bachelor's degree.   EXPERIENCE - Less than 1 Year of ExperienceExperience in tax internship or tax a plus.
