Job Title: Tax Preparer - Estate and Trust Job Description We are seeking a skilled Tax Preparer with expertise in estate and trust taxation for a direct placement role. This position offers hybrid flexibility after training and requires a professional who is committed to providing top-tier service in tax preparation and administration. Responsibilities + Prepare federal and state fiduciary income tax returns (Form 1041), federal estate tax returns (Form 706), federal and state gift tax returns (Form 709), as well as related forms and schedules, including Form 5227 for Charitable Remainder and Split Interest Trusts. + Assist with estate and trust administration by gathering financial data, tracking distributions, and finalizing deceased individuals’ tax affairs. + Research and interpret tax laws and regulations to ensure compliance and provide accurate tax planning advice. + Collaborate with attorneys, trustees, executors, and beneficiaries to collect necessary information and resolve outstanding issues. + Maintain accurate records, monitor filing deadlines, and manage workflow to ensure timely completion of assignments. + Stay current on tax law changes and industry trends through continuing education and professional development. + Communicate effectively with clients regarding documentation needs, filing status, and tax planning opportunities. + Support developing and implementing client-specific tax strategies, including gifting, charitable contributions, and fiduciary distributions. + Ensure all work meets quality standards and complies with relevant regulations and internal procedures. Essential Skills + Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required. + 3–5 years of experience in estate and trust tax preparation, including experience with Forms 1041, 5227, 709, and 706. + Strong knowledge of fiduciary accounting, estate and trust administration, and applicable tax laws. + Proficiency with tax preparation software and Microsoft Office Suite; experience with Thomson Reuters, CCH Axcess, or similar platforms. + Exceptional attention to detail, organizational, and time management skills. + Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective client and team interactions. + Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Enrolled Agent (EA) designation preferred. + Spanish speaker is a bonus. + Proactive, client-focused, and able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines. + Commitment to ongoing professional development and maintaining current estate and trust taxation knowledge. + Strong problem-solving skills and ability to research and resolve complex tax issues.
