Job Description
This Tax Manager role joins a collaborative tax team of seven in a growing office based in Richmond. The position offers a local small-office feel with the resources and reach of a national firm, providing strong benefits and a more balanced workload during both busy and off seasons compared to larger firms. The Tax Manager will lead complex tax engagements, support team development, and deliver high-quality service to a diverse portfolio of business and individual clients.
Responsibilities
Review U.S. and multi-state income tax returns for business entities, including C-corporations, S-corporations, partnerships, and fiduciary returns.Review U.S. and state individual income tax returns and gift tax returns.Oversee and review the preparation of Forms 1040 and 1065, ensuring accuracy and compliance with applicable tax laws and regulations.Prepare detailed tax projections for individual and corporate clients to support planning and decision-making.Conduct tax research as needed to resolve complex issues and provide informed recommendations to clients and colleagues.Communicate proactively with existing clients and colleagues regarding various tax matters, deadlines, and planning opportunities.Engage in consulting assignments and special projects as requested by clients, including tax planning and advisory services.Manage and mentor team members, including assigning work, reviewing deliverables, and providing feedback and guidance.Ensure timely completion of engagements during busy season while maintaining quality and adherence to firm standards.Collaborate with internal teams to enhance processes, leverage tax technology tools, and support continuous improvement within the tax practice.Essential Skills
At least 7 years of tax experience, including review and preparation of C-corporation, S-corporation, partnership, fiduciary returns, and Forms 1040 and 1065.Demonstrated experience as a manager responsible for overseeing team members and reviewing their work.Active CPA or EA certification.Strong background in U.S. and multi-state income tax for business entities and individuals.Experience meeting directly with clients and providing high-quality customer service.Solid understanding of accounting principles as they relate to tax compliance and planning.Proficiency with CCH Axcess tax software.Experience using QuickBooks for client accounting and tax-related work.Ability to conduct thorough tax research and apply findings to practical client situations.Excellent written and verbal communication skills for client and internal communications.Additional Skills & Qualifications

The role is based in a Richmond office that offers a local small-office atmosphere supported by the resources of a national firm with multiple locations and growth plans. The position is structured as a Monday through Friday schedule, fully onsite initially to build a strong foundation, with the expectation of transitioning to 1\u20132 days per week working from home after approximately three months. During busy season, the typical workload ranges from 50 to 55 hours per week, while the off season generally averages around 40 hours per week. The work environment emphasizes collaboration, professional growth, and the use of modern tax and accounting technologies such as CCH Axcess, Canopy CRM, and QuickBooks. Team members work closely together to support clients, balance workloads, and maintain a high standard of quality and service.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $120000.00 - $145000.00/yr.
