Your role and responsibilities

Tax Compliance & Risk Management​​

Oversee full-cycle tax compliance for the Chinese entity and branches, including preparation and filing of annual corporate income tax (CIT), value-added tax (VAT), business tax, and other local tax returns (e.g., stamp duty, individual income tax for expats).

Ensure adherence to Chinese tax laws (e.g., CIT Law, VAT Regulations) and international tax standards, with a focus on transfer pricing compliance (e.g., preparing master/local files).

Manage tax audits and disputes, liaising with tax authorities (e.g., State Taxation Administration, SAT) to resolve issues, represent the group in negotiations, and implement corrective actions post-audit.

​​Tax Strategy & Planning​​

Develop and execute the group’s China tax strategy aligned with global business objectives, including optimizing effective tax rates (ETR) while maintaining compliance.

Provide tax-efficient structuring advice for business operations (e.g., subsidiary establishment, M&A, joint ventures, or divestments) and cross-border transactions (e.g., intra-group services, intellectual property licensing, dividends/remittances).

Lead tax due diligence for potential investments, acquisitions, or partnerships in China, identifying tax risks (e.g., hidden liabilities, non-compliance) and designing mitigation strategies.

​​Transfer Pricing & International Tax Coordination​​

Manage the group’s transfer pricing policy, ensuring alignment with arm’s-length principles and local regulatory requirements (e.g., SAT Circular 24, Circular 64).

Collaborate with global tax teams to harmonize transfer pricing documentation (master file, local file) and country-by-country reporting (CbCR), addressing discrepancies between Chinese rules and global standards.

Advise on tax implications of cross-border transactions (e.g., royalties, interest, service fees) to minimize double taxation and leverage tax treaties (e.g., China-US, China-EU DTAs).

​​Tax Technology & Process Optimization​​

Implement or optimize tax compliance tools (e.g., tax calculation software, e-filing systems) to streamline processes, reduce manual errors, and improve efficiency.

Work with IT/finance teams to integrate tax data into the group’s ERP systems, ensuring accurate tracking of tax-related transactions (e.g., intercompany balances, tax provisions).

​​Stakeholder Collaboration & Team Leadership​​

Partner with business units (e.g., sales, procurement, R&D) to provide tax insights on commercial decisions (e.g., pricing, supply chain restructuring, incentives for R&D).

Mentor and supervise a tax team (1–2 members) responsible for day-to-day tax compliance tasks, fostering skill development in FIE taxation and international tax.


Qualifications for the role

Minimum 5 years of tax management experience in foreign-invested enterprises (FIEs), multinational corporations (MNCs), or professional services firms (e.g., Big 4) serving MNC clients. Proven track record in Chinese tax compliance, planning, and transfer pricing is required.

​​In-depth knowledge of Chinese tax laws (CIT, VAT, transfer pricing, tax incentives) and regulatory updates (e.g., recent SAT policies on R&D credits, digital economy taxation).

Familiarity with international tax frameworks and cross-border tax issues (e.g., permanent establishment, foreign tax credits).

Proficiency in tax compliance tools (e.g., Vertex, OneSource) and advanced Excel (e.g., tax provision modeling, data analysis for tax audits).

​​Fluent in English (business writing, speaking) for global team communication and reviewing international tax documentation.

Strong Mandarin skills (written/spoken) for local stakeholder engagement (tax authorities, banks, legal advisors).

​​Strategic thinker with ability to balance tax optimization with business goals and compliance risks.

Excellent problem-solver with a track record of resolving complex tax issues (e.g., audit disputes, transfer pricing adjustments).

Detail-oriented, proactive, and able to thrive in a fast-paced, post-spin-off environment requiring adaptability.
