Tax Analyst- U.S. Indirect Tax Compliance and Reporting

Job Description

Hybrid: This position allows flexibility utilizing our hybrid-work appropriately model where team members can work at the Detroit Headquarters requiring the team member be onsite to support project needs.  At GM, we believe work-life harmonization is essential to a team member’s success and job satisfaction

The Role: The U.S. Indirect Tax Compliance and Reporting Tax Analyst is responsible for processes necessary to ensure GM’s compliance with U.S. non-income tax requirements and related financial accounting.

What You'll Do:

Assisting in the compilation of Indirect tax transactional data for return compliance to ensure timely and accurate filings and paymentsAssisting in the data collection and analysis of data for personal property tax compliance to ensure timely and accurate filings and payments for all applicable property taxesReviewing Indirect tax accounting, accruals and account reconciliationsPartnering with business units to support tax determinations on procurementsPerforming real-time analytics on GM’s self-assessment of use tax on purchasesSupporting on-going system redesigns and projects from a tax perspectiveEnsuring tax requirements are met on various GM new product initiativesCompiling and analyzing support for Indirect sales and use tax audits and/or personal property auditsResearching regulatory requirements on sales and purchase transactionsWorking on special cross-functional projects

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):

2+ years of relevant large public accounting firm or private industry experience, including Indirect tax (sales and use, property, excise tax) experienceAbility to prioritize assignments and manage workload within statutory and internal deadlinesWell-developed computer and tax system skillsExperience with finance enterprise systems and tax provision systems (e.g., SAP, OneSource Indirect/Sabrix)Self-motivated, with strong interpersonal, team and partnering skills

What Can Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):

Bachelor’s Degree in AccountingCPA and/or Master’s degree in Taxation or Accounting; other advanced degree or trainingDemonstrated effective, analytical and problem-solving skills

This job is not eligible for relocation benefits. Any relocation costs would be the responsibility of the selected candidate.
