Overview
Job Summary
Performs various accounting and analytical duties related to state and local indirect tax compliance, providing research support for various internal departments responsible for administering and collecting sales and use tax. Perform other related work.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintain working knowledge of ongoing state and local tax law changes and provide updates to internal departments on applicable laws. Prepare documents to comply with state and local sales and use tax reporting requirements. Prepare, analyze and file sales/use tax returns.Reconcile sales/use tax related liability accounts and review monthly journal entries.Assist with multi-state property tax filings.Process and record property tax payments, reconciliations and assist with audits. Provide support for state sales/use tax audits and other inquiries from taxing authorities.Assist in planning for and obtaining tax refunds related to government sponsored economic incentives.Perform special projects as required to obtain available tax based refunds.Perform all job duties and responsibilities with honesty and integrity.Perform other duties as assigned or needed.
Requirements
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance OR equivalent combination of education, training and experience in a financial account or staff accountant role.
Experience:
At least two (2) years in a position applying knowledge of state and local indirect tax laws in a compliance environment.Experience preparing, analyzing and filing sales and use taxes and property taxes.Ability to conduct tax research and prepare a memorandum in a multi-state and multi-jurisdiction environment and provide tax research/findings to all management and customers.Demonstrate analytical skills using Microsoft Excel Experience interpreting and analyzing statistical and financial information, applying strong analytical and problem-solving skills with close attention to detail.Financial reporting and general ledger accounting experience.Ability to prioritize and perform a variety of simultaneous tasks (multi-tasking) in a high-pressure environment, demonstrating initiative, dependability and self-direction to complete projects within expected deadlines or defined time estimates.Excellent verbal, written and inter-personal communication skills and ability to establish and maintain a good rapport with co-workers, supervisors, store personnel and vendors.
Preferred Experience:
Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Master’s degree or equivalent.
