Job Description

Takeda's Biotherapeutics Process Development focuses on creating and optimizing the manufacturing processes for innovative biologic medicines, including monoclonal antibodies and other therapeutic proteins. BPD includes cell line development, upstream cell culture, downstream purification, in-process analytics, pilot labs to facilitate scale up and transfer, and technology development teams, working collaboratively to deliver Takeda’s novel therapeutics.

As a Co-op in the Upstream Pilot Lab, you will learn about bioreactor scale-up and lead kLa studies to characterize large-scale bioreactors in the Pilot Lab. You will gain hands-on experience working with large-scale bioreactors (50L – 1000L) and develop lab skills, including sampling and setting up bioreactors and working with an auto sampling system.


How You Will Contribute:

As an Upstream Pilot Lab Co-op you will have the opportunity to…

Work as a member of the Upstream Pilot Lab team for a period of approximately 6 months gaining hands-on experience working with large-scale bioreactors

Collect and analyze kLa data from large-scale bioreactors

Learn about bioreactor scale-up strategies

Establish best practices for bioreactor sampling automation

Collaborate cross-functionally with engineers on the upstream team to deliver project goals

Co-op Development Opportunities:

Gain hands-on experience working with large-scale bioreactors (50 – 1000L)

Build knowledge of bioreactor scale-up strategies by running kLa studies

Learn aseptic technique for working with bioreactors

Strengthen your data analysis and presentation skills by interpreting experiment results and presenting to colleagues

Job Requirements:

This position will be Fully Onsite out of the Lexington MA location

Must be pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in chemical engineering, biochemistry, biomedical engineering, chemistry, biotechnology, or related field  

Previous experience with aseptic technique and cell culture is preferred, but not required

Excellent communication skills, both oral and written

Ability to learn new techniques and perform multiple tasks simultaneously

Co-op Eligibility  

Must be authorized to work in the U.S. on a permanent basis without requiring sponsorship  

Must be currently enrolled in a degree program graduating December 2026 or later  

The co-op program is 6 months long from January to June   

Able to work full time 40 hours a week during co-op dates   

Takeda does not provide a housing stipend or relocation support

U.S. Hourly Wage Range:

$21.00 - $46.00

The estimated hourly range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual hourly wage offered will depend on the candidate’s school year/level to be entered following completion of internship.  The actual hourly wage offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location.
