Job DescriptionAECOM is hiring a Systems Engineering Manager to join our growing Transit & Rail Systems team in Canada. This role will support the delivery of major, complex rail programs while expanding our technical leadership capacity in anticipation of upcoming projects across the country. This is a newly created position.
This role can be based in Mississauga, Markham, Calgary or Edmonton.
The Systems Engineering Manager will play a senior leadership role in planning, executing, and governing Systems Engineering activities across multidisciplinary rail and transit programs.
Responsibilities
General Responsibilities
Lead and manage Systems Engineering activities across all project phases (concept, design, implementation, testing, commissioning)Provide technical direction and leadership to interdisciplinary engineering teamsReport Systems Engineering progress and risks to senior leadership (Project Technical Manager / Director)Interpret and execute complex multi-disciplinary engineering scopesMaintain technical coordination with internal and external stakeholders (clients, suppliers, subcontractors, assessors)Work independently under broad objectives, exercising professional judgmentSupervise, mentor, and develop engineers and technical staffCore Systems Engineering Responsibilities
Develop, review, and approve Systems Engineering Management Plans (SEMP), Requirements Management Plans, and V&V PlansLead and coordinate:Requirements ManagementInterface and Integration ManagementConfiguration ManagementTechnical governance and assuranceManage requirements processes from customer capture through design, verification, validation, and acceptanceLead development of system specifications including:Functional requirementsSystem architecturesInterface specificationsEstablish and maintain traceability across system requirements using requirements management tools (e.g., DOORS, JAMA)Coordinate integration dependencies across disciplines and suppliersLead engagement with Independent Safety Assessors (ISA), Technical Authorities, and auditorsSupport evidence-based engineering and progressive assurance activities
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in EngineeringMinimum 8 years of experience in Systems Engineering and Rail SystemsAt least 5 years of direct experience delivering Systems Engineering activities on railway or transit projectsStrong working knowledge of requirements management tools (DOORS, DOORS NG, JAMA, or equivalent)Valid driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications
Ideally 15+ years of experience in Systems Engineering and Rail SystemsPractical experience applying standards including:ISO 15288 / ISO 29148 / ISO 24748IEEE 1220 / IEEE 24748EN 50126 / IEC 62278 / NFPA 130INCOSE CSEP or ESEP certificationProfessional Engineer (P.Eng) licensure or eligibility for registrationStrong understanding of:Configuration managementChange controlGovernance frameworksProject management certification (PMP, PRINCE2, or equivalent)Excellent stakeholder communication and leadership skillsAdditional InformationSponsorship for Canadian employment authorization is not available for this position
