Job Description:

Parsons is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Systems Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be instrumental in building, maintaining, and operating sophisticated hardware and software systems. Your expertise will contribute to the seamless integration and performance of our cutting-edge technologies. As a Systems Engineer at Parsons, you will be responsible for the operations and maintenance of Linux-based software across various platforms, including bare metal hardware, virtual machines (VMs), and containers. You will play a critical role in supporting new software releases, troubleshooting complex system issues, and ensuring the reliability and efficiency of our systems. Your ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and provide timely solutions will be essential to our success.

What You'll Be Doing:

Perform Operations and Maintenance of Linux based software running on a variety of bare metal hardware, VMs, and containers.Support new software releases by testing, troubleshooting, debugging, and providing expertise during the installation, configuration, and deploymentTest proposed releases on production-like test bed prior to installation in the fieldPromptly respond to reported problems during and after a deployment to resolve the issue or identify next steps; frequently communicate status and priorities to the development team and leadershipTroubleshoot complex system issues and performance bottlenecks; determine root cause analysis for discrepancies and defects found in a releaseWork with test team to ensure any defects found in the field are included in subsequent regression testingDuring release development, assist systems integration and testing activities, including documentation and reporting of resultsCollaborate with customers, developers, and testers to gather requirements, resolve issues, and ensure successful system deploymentsProvide occasional on-call support outside of normal business hoursSet up test environments to include installing software packages on Linux platforms or installing/configuring hardware/networking components for internal and customer test environments

What Required Skills You'll Bring:

Top Secret//SCI Security Clearance with Polygraph requiredBachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or related engineering, technical, or scientific discipline5+ years of relevant professional experienceExperience with scripting languages such as Python or BASHExtensive knowledge and experience using the Linux command line, with expertise in the following:Advanced file operationsManaging systemd servicesRemote navigation and file operationWriting and debugging shell scripts (using BASH)Setting up and managing cron jobs for task automationBasic system monitoring and performance tuningManaging software repositories and dependenciesExperience analyzing networking protocols using Wireshark

What Desired Skills You'll Bring:

Experience testing and debugging issues with Client/Server Web-based applicationsExperience deploying, configuring, and using Virtual Machine environments (VMware, libvirt, etc.)Experience with Docker/Podman containersExperience configuring, troubleshooting, and performance testing networking devices (switches, routers, etc.)Experience with Kafka, OpenSearch, Grafana, InfluxDBAdvanced knowledge of OSI model, analyzing networking protocols using Wireshark

Security Clearance Requirement:

An active Top Secret SCI w/Polygraph security clearance is required for this position.​

Salary Range: $120,800.00 - $217,400.00
