Leidos is seeking a mid-level Systems Engineer to join our team supporting the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in advancing the future of the National Airspace System (NAS). This role will focus on the development and evaluation of emerging air traffic management concepts, technologies, and human-centered solutions that enhance the safety, efficiency, and resilience of U.S. airspace operations.
The ideal candidate brings a solid foundation in systems engineering principles and a working knowledge of air traffic management (ATM) systems. Candidates should have experience or strong interest in model-based systems engineering (MBSE), artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML), and human factors engineering. This individual will contribute to a cross-functional team supporting UX/UI design, requirements development, concept exploration, systems design, and testing efforts aligned with FAA priorities.
Primary Responsibilities:
Support the development and analysis of future NAS concepts, including new air traffic automation capabilities, decision support tools, and human-system interfaces.Participate in the definition, development, and validation of system requirements and design specifications.Apply systems engineering principles throughout the system lifecycle, including requirements traceability, functional decomposition, interface definition, and system verification/validation.Contribute to model-based systems engineering (MBSE) activities, including the development and use of system architecture models.Support the integration of emerging AI/ML capabilities and digital engineering techniques into future system concepts.Collaborate with human factors specialists to support human-centered design, usability evaluations, and user interface design development.Work closely with cross-disciplinary teams including software engineers, domain experts, human factors engineers, and test personnel to ensure systems meet operational, safety, and user needs.Assist in the preparation of technical documentation, system engineering plans, and presentations for both internal stakeholders and FAA customers.Participate in testing support activities including test planning, procedure development, and execution oversight.Basic Qualifications:
BS degree and 2+ years of prior relevant experience or Masters with less than 2 years of prior relevant experience.
