The Systems Administrator maintains and administers computer networks and equipment to ensure optimal performance in and fast recovery from emergency situations. The incumbent ensures effective provisioning, installation, configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software, and related infrastructure.
Department Specific Functions
1. Responsible for overseeing the daily operations, maintenance, and support of university computer labs to ensure a secure, efficient, and user-friendly environment for students, faculty, and staff.
2. This role includes managing hardware and software installations, performing routine system updates, monitoring lab usage and access, and ensuring compliance with institutional IT policies.
3. Thorough knowledge of Windows, macOS, and Linux operating systems required. Candidates must also possess strong expertise in MySQL database management and administration.
4. Provides technical support, troubleshoots issues, and coordinates with IT teams to maintain network connectivity and system integrity.
5. Researching, installing, and testing software updates and patches to support applications on Windows, macOS, and Linux operating systems.
6. Provisioning, installation, configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software.
7. Manage software license renewal and licensing server upgrades.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field.
Experience:
Minimum 3 years of experience managing Windows Server and Linux environments.Experience with FlexNet Publisher or similar license management tools.Experience with Linux server administration and AMP stack configuration.Proven experience managing and imaging Windows and macOS endpoints in an enterprise environment.Experience working in hybrid or multi-site environments.Any relevant education, certifications and/or work experience may be considered.Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:
PHP, JavaScript programming, and HTML.Strong understanding of Active Directory, Group Policy, and Windows Server roles.Proficiency in Linux command-line tools, scripting (Bash, PowerShell), and web/database services.Database experience, MySQL experience preferred.Windows, macOS and Linux experience.Strong understanding of Active Directory, Group Policy, and Windows Server roles.Familiarity with imaging tools (e.g., MDT, JAMF, or equivalent).Must have problem solving qualities to quickly identify and resolve technical issues with effective solutions.Excellent troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.Capable to clearly explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.Must have a high level of attention to detail.Be able to quickly adjust to new technologies and changing organizational needs.Must have a customer service mindsetAbility to work independently and collaboratively across technical tea.ms.Knowledge of network fundamentals, firewalls, and security best practices.
