How a Systems Administrator Will Make an Impact:
Designs and defines system architecture for new or existing computer systems. Coordinates system development to include design, modeling, security, integration, and formal testing
Develops advanced engineering ideas and guides their development into a final product
Develops advanced solutions to a variety of highly complex engineering problems
Perform highly advanced systems design, development, and integration from the start of a systems life cycle to the end
Provides and applies advanced engineering to highly complex infrastructures including installing, configuring, testing, and maintaining operating systems, application software, and system management tools
Provides and applies advanced engineering skills to highly complex systems modeling, simulation, and analysis
Performs continual maintenance and provides advanced solutions for security, backup, and redundancy problems
Prepares and maintains documentation for processes and procedures related to engineering projects
Maintains current knowledge of rapidly changing technology, always on the lookout for new technologies, and works with management to evolve current processes
Performs complex systems development and design work that may include logic design, I/O design, model formulation, computer architecture analysis and design, and digital systems engineering
Invents innovative ways to drive production operational efficiency
Drives scalability and operability of supported systems/infrastructure
Implements, manages, and enhances Continuous Integration and Delivery (CI/CD) pipeline tools
Creates, maintains, and reviews Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Desired State Configuration (DSC) and/or Puppet configuration management tools to support the provisioning infrastructure
Provides system/equipment/specialized training and technical guidance
May coach and provide guidance to less-experienced professionals
May serve as a team or task lead
Recognized as a Subject Matter Expert in systems engineering
What You’ll Need to Succeed:
Education: BS in Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related technology field. Experience may be substituted for education.
Required Experience: Minimum of 3 years’ related technical experience to include the following:
Troubleshooting complex system hardware and software issues
Practical use of DevOps and/or DevSecOps, and/or GitOps methodologies
Solid knowledge of protocols such as DNS, HTTP, LDAP, ICMP, SSH and SNMP
Solid knowledge of Networking, VLANs, Firewalls, Load Balancers, and addressing schemes
Skilled in system administration tasks such as file system, network, and account troubleshooting
Thorough technical documentation including diagrams
Successful implementation of new technology in complex environments
Security Clearance Level: Active Top Secret
Location: Washington, District of Columbia; limited telework may be available
