Join Eaton and Make What Matters Work
At Eaton, we’re dedicated to improving people’s lives and the environment with power management technologies that are more reliable, efficient, safe, and sustainable. We are looking for a System Safety Engineer to join our dynamic team in Wimborne, where you’ll play a key role in ensuring the safety and airworthiness of cutting-edge aerospace systems.
As a System Safety Engineer, you'll focus on doing things the right way — ethically, transparently, and with a sense of deep personal accountability. Someone who believes that safety isn’t paperwork; it’s a mindset, a behavioural choice, and a promise that what we build will protect those who protect us.
You will be responsible for conducting System Safety Assessments (SSA) to both Military and Civil standards for our air-to-air refuelling and actuation systems. You’ll collaborate closely with design and functional teams to assess compliance with safety standards and contribute to the certification and airworthiness of our products.
**What you’ll do:**
This isn’t a role where you’ll sit in a corner producing static documents. This is a hands‑on, thinking role where:
+ You’ll learn directly from subject-matter experts spanning safety, certification, systems engineering, avionics, mission systems and more.
+ You’ll be challenged to think critically, ethically, and holistically — balancing engineering logic with human impact.
Your decisions will matter: they’ll shape design, influence risk, and determine outcomes.
This is a role where your integrity, judgment, and engineering curiosity are as important as your technical skills. You'll:
+ Lead and contribute to system safety analyses throughout the entire engineering lifecycle.
+ Develop and maintain safety assessments, hazard analyses, and artefacts that support airworthiness and regulatory compliance, including techniques such as Functional Hazard Analyses (FHA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), and System Hazard Analysis (SHA) in line with SAE ARP4761, MIL-STD-882, and other applicable standards.
+ Influence design teams and programme decisions by providing expert guidance on safety-related matters, offering clear, ethical, and evidence-based insights.
+ Promote a robust safety culture by challenging assumptions, posing difficult questions, and ensuring rigour even in complex situations.
+ Engage directly with customers, partners, suppliers, and certification authorities.
We're looking for someone who:
+ Values integrity above convenience. You speak up, act ethically, and ensure decisions are defensible and transparent.
+ Thinks rigorously. You analyse, investigate, challenge, and seek truth in data and evidence.
+ Learns relentlessly. You’re energised by complexity, new domains, new tools, new processes, and expanding your engineering judgement.
+ Collaborates with purpose. You enjoy working with multidisciplinary teams and communicating clearly, openly, and respectfully.
**Qualifications:**
Ideally you will have at least a Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering or a related discipline, and 2 years’ experience in a Systems or Safety Engineering role or similar.
**What we offer:**
+ Competitive compensation and benefits package
+ Challenging projects in dynamic collaborative team
+ Flexible working hours and 2 days home office
+ We make your aspirations matter – Eaton encourages internal promotion, whenever possible
+ We make your growth matter - We invest in our employees for the long term – not just with salary and benefits, but with ongoing learning and development opportunities made available through Eaton University
+ We make your contributions matter - reliability, safety, efficiency, and sustainability are at the core of our dedication to improving people’s lives and the environment through power management technologies.
