Italy is the Group’s Competence center for the design, production and delivery of Navigation Aids products and Competence Centre for the delivery of non-Radar Surveillance Products.
Thales Navigation And non-radar Surveillance (NAS) business segment, part of the Thales Land and Air Systems Global Business Unit, architects solutions used by two-thirds of all planes worldwide to take off and land safely. Our Ground Navigation portfolio offers a complete range of products, which includes the latest generation of ground-based navigational aids (NAVAIDs) (e.g. ILS, DME, TACAN, VOR) and non-radar surveillance (e.g. ADS-B). With more than 7,000 NAVAIDs and non-radar surveillance installed worldwide in 172 countries, we are world leaders in the NAVAIDs market.
Responsibilities
Collaborate within an agile, multidisciplinary engineering team (Cybersecurity, Software, Mechanics, RF, Safety, Design, Service, Manufacturing) to develop new products and enhance existing ones.Conduct studies, simulations, and validations of innovative concepts, verifying their performance on real systems.Author and maintain comprehensive System Specifications and define external product interfaces.Analyze System/Subsystem Specification (SSS) requirements to identify and implement necessary hardware and software modifications.Support hardware and software teams in the definition of subsystem specifications and interfaces.Define integration and verification strategies, write detailed test procedures, and execute system integration, verification, and qualification activities.Required Skills and Experience:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering (preferably Electronics, Telecommunications, Computer Science, Mechanics, or related fields).Minimum 4+ years of experience in System Engineering roles involving complex products.Broad technical knowledge across Electronics, Software, Telecommunications, Mechanics, and Radio Frequency domains.Proficient with standard office tools (MS Office Suite).Strong analytical, synthetic, and autonomous problem-solving skills, with the ability to seek support when necessary.Fluent in English and Italian, both spoken and written; proficiency in German or French is considered a plus.Experienced in requirements management tools (e.g., DOORS) and issue tracking platforms (e.g., Jira).Team-oriented mindset, with the ability to collectively pursue and achieve project goals.The candidate should:
Possess knowledge or hands-on experience with Surveillance and Navigation systems (such as ADS-B, MLAT, WAM, ILS, VOR, TACAN, DME…).Be familiar with aviation regulations and standards (ICAO, EN, ED129, ED142 and local regulations).Demonstrate strong self-motivation, critical thinking, and a genuine curiosity for learning and innovation.Exhibit excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.Be comfortable collaborating with software teams, contributing proactively to the definition of architectures, specifications, and testing activities.At Thales we provide CAREERS and not only jobs.
