SYSTEM DIRECTOR PHYSICIAN CONTRACTING | REMOTE

The System Director Physician Contracting is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of physician contracting for hospital-based services. This includes negotiation, execution, and oversight of contracts with physicians, physician groups, and other healthcare providers to ensure alignment with the system’s and market’s strategic, financial, and operational goals. The role works closely with market and hospital leadership, legal teams, and physician stakeholders to develop and maintain contracts that optimize quality of care, compliance, and financial performance.

Essential Job Functions

Lead negotiations for physician and provider contracts, including compensation models, service agreements, and incentive structures.

Develop and implement system-wide contracting strategies, tactics, policies, and processes that align with hospital goals and market dynamics.

Ensure fair market value (FMV) and regulatory compliance in all physician contracts.

Manage contract renewals, amendments, and terminations as needed.

Collaborate with finance teams to evaluate the financial impact of contracts and reimbursement structures.

Optimize contract terms to drive efficiency, cost savings, and quality outcomes.

Monitor contract performance and enforce compliance with contractual obligations.

Serve as the primary point of contact for hospital-based physician groups (e.g., anesthesiology, radiology, emergency medicine).

Build and maintain strong relationships with physicians, hospital administrators, finance, and legal teams.

Facilitate discussions and conflict resolution between the hospital and contracted providers.

Ensure all contracts comply with federal and state laws, including Stark Law, Anti-Kickback Statute, and other regulatory requirements.

Work with legal and compliance teams to mitigate risk in physician contracting.

Stay informed on healthcare regulations and industry trends that impact hospital-based physician contracts.

Develop long-term strategies for physician engagement and contract optimization.

Provide leadership to contracting teams, ensuring best practices in negotiation and contract management.

Support hospital leadership in strategic decision-making related to physician services.

REQUIRED

Bachelor’s degree in business administration, healthcare administration, finance, or related field required (required).Minimum 7+ years’ experience in physician contracting, healthcare administration, or hospital leadership roles (required)Proven experience in negotiating high-value physician contracts within a hospital or health system.

PREFERRED

Master’s degree in business administration, healthcare administration, or juris doctorPrevious experience using contract management software and financial modeling tools
