System Development Engineer, Data Center Procurement Governance (DCPG)
AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain — and we’re looking for talented people who want to help. You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles.

You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.

At AWS, we are on a mission to build the next generation technology that will transform the way our Data Center Services Procurement teams operate to deliver to our ambitious build plan. As a System Development Engineer in Data Center Procurement Governance (DCPG), you will play a critical role in turning that vision into reality.

As a Systems Development Engineer, you will lead and drive global initiatives that empower the Data Center Services Procurement team (DCSP) to operate more efficiently and effectively. This includes creating and maintaining system integrations and enhancements; establishing system mechanisms to enable teams to consistently deliver against defined standards globally; managing system standards and improvements for global internal and external users; auditing the team’s metrics to identify and address trends or issues; and supporting the introduction of new technology that enables greater efficiencies within the Procurement Lifecycle.

Key job responsibilities

Analyze complex business requirements to architect scalable, secure, and fault-tolerant systems. Identify and recommend optimal technologies and frameworks to ensure long-term reliability and performance.
2. Automated Testing, Deployment - ensure comprehensiveness, end to end to ensure reliability and stability of deployed systems
3. Develop and maintain ETL pipelines in Spark to transform and load metrics into the Data lake.
4. Optimize SQL queries for fast, cost-efficient access by AI systems and Analytics.
5. Collaborate and Knowledge Sharing - work cross functionally with product managers and other engineers, communicate technical concepts effectively, contribute to the team's knowledge base and documentation

You will operate effectively in an ambiguous environment and drives structure without constraining business objectives. You have a demonstrated track record of managing multiple projects and driving them to completion.
As this role will influence global team members, you are a highly collaborative player and able to influence without authority while also being able to work with significant autonomy.

To be successful, you must balance being analytical with getting things done, be a team player that is highly customer and improvement focused.

A day in the life
You'll drive technical initiatives across multiple time zones. Your responsibilities span troubleshooting system issues, executing development projects, and solving complex integration challenges. You'll own data pipeline projects, implement ETL workflows, and maintain production systems for procurement operations and GenAI projects. You'll apply CI/CD practices, infrastructure-as-code principles, and data visualization techniques to deliver strategic problem-solving and system optimization across the organization. You'll participate in design discussions, code reviews, and communicate with internal and external stakeholders. You'll work cross-functionally to help drive business decisions with your technical input.
