SVP, Technology Operations

Labcorp is seeking an experienced and visionary Senior Vice President, Technology Operations to join Labcorp, a leader in the diagnostics industry. In this executive-level position, you will be responsible for leading the company’s cloud and infrastructure operations, end-user computing, and enterprise technology strategy to drive innovation, enhance operational efficiency, and accelerate time to market.

Working closely with the CITO and cross-functional leadership teams, you will develop and implement a comprehensive platform and technology strategy that enables Labcorp to accelerate digital transformation and business value creation. This includes oversight of the modernization and optimization of Labcorp’s cloud and infrastructure environments, ensuring scalable, secure, and cost-efficient operations that support high availability and business agility.

In addition, you will lead all aspects of end-user computing and support services, including desktop engineering, the global service desk, and on-site support operations, ensuring an exceptional and consistent technology experience for employees around the world. By aligning foundational technology with the needs of the workforce, you will play a critical role in enabling productivity, collaboration, and innovation across the enterprise.

The ideal candidate will bring a strong technical foundation, with previous experience as a software architect and programmer highly preferred. You must demonstrate the ability to translate technical vision into actionable strategies, and to lead high-performing teams responsible for delivering reliable, secure, and scalable technology solutions.

This role is critical to helping Labcorp deliver high-quality, future-proof software and infrastructure capabilities that support the company’s strategic goals and the evolving needs of our customers and employees.

Duties and Responsibilities

Rationalization of Disparate Technology:

Assess the current technology stack, identify redundancies, inefficiencies, and areas for consolidation.

Develop and execute strategies to rationalize and integrate disparate technologies across the company to ensure cost-effective and efficient technology usage.

Drive initiatives to eliminate legacy systems, improve data flows, and implement modern solutions that align with business priorities.

Platform Strategy Development:

Work closely with the executive team to design and implement a platform strategy that accelerates software development and reduces time to market.

Partner with product and engineering teams to identify platform needs and ensure the platform can scale with the growth of the business.

Build a roadmap for platform evolution that is forward-looking, incorporating cutting-edge technologies such as cloud computing, AI/ML, and other emerging technologies to improve platform capabilities.

Technology Strategy Leadership:

Collaborate with the CITO and other senior leaders to define and implement the company’s technology strategy in alignment with business goals.

Develop long-term strategic plans for technology investment and innovation to ensure the company stays ahead of industry trends and is positioned for future success.

Provide thought leadership on technology trends and advancements, identifying opportunities for technological innovation and competitive advantage.

Foster a culture of continuous learning and innovation, ensuring that the organization stays at the forefront of technology development.

Technology Investment Guidance and Oversight:

Develop and maintain processes and controls to ensure company technology investments are cost-effective, align with the enterprise architecture, and support both company-wide and divisional objectives.

Collaborate proactively with business leaders to help them envision how digital technologies can transform their areas and accelerate goal achievement.

Cloud and Infrastructure Strategy and Operations

Lead the strategy, design, and continuous optimization of Labcorp’s cloud and infrastructure platforms to ensure secure, scalable, and cost-effective operations.

Oversee day-to-day cloud and infrastructure operations, ensuring high availability, performance, and resilience across all environments.

Develop and execute a roadmap for infrastructure modernization, leveraging public cloud, hybrid, and edge computing where appropriate to support the company’s growth and digital transformation objectives.

Ensure alignment of infrastructure services with enterprise architecture standards, regulatory requirements, and business continuity goals.

Partner with security, compliance, and risk management teams to maintain a strong security posture and ensure adherence to data protection standards.

Operational Excellence and Automation in Infrastructure

Champion the use of Infrastructure as Code (IaC), automation, and DevOps practices to increase operational efficiency, reduce manual effort, and accelerate infrastructure provisioning.

Establish performance monitoring, alerting, and incident management practices that ensure reliability and rapid response to system issues.

Continuously evaluate and implement tools and technologies that enhance infrastructure observability, management, and cost optimization.

Develop and track key metrics to measure infrastructure performance, uptime, scalability, and cost-efficiency, providing transparency to senior leadership.

Collaborate with application, data, and security teams to ensure infrastructure supports evolving business and technical needs, including scalability, speed, and global reach.

End User Computing and Support Services:

Oversee all aspects of end user computing, ensuring a secure, seamless, and high-performing experience across desktops, laptops, mobile devices, and collaboration tools.

Lead the global service desk, desktop engineering, and on-site support teams to deliver consistent, responsive, and high-quality technology support to employees across all locations.

Establish and maintain service delivery standards, SLAs, and performance metrics to ensure prompt issue resolution and a positive user experience.

Drive automation and self-service capabilities to reduce friction, improve satisfaction, and increase support efficiency.

Partner with HR, Facilities, and business functions to align IT support services with onboarding, offboarding, and employee lifecycle needs.

Continuously gather and act on user feedback to inform improvements in tools, processes, and support delivery.

Ensure the end user technology environment remains up-to-date, secure, and aligned with enterprise architecture and cybersecurity standards.

Digital Innovation and Incubation:

Stay informed about emerging industry trends and technologies that have the potential to enhance business performance, operations, and technology delivery.

Pilot and evaluate new digital tools and methods to assess their value and alignment with company needs.

Oversee the adoption and integration of digital technologies such as automation, artificial intelligence, and data and analytics.

Create and socialize business cases justifying the value and impact of new technologies.

In partnership with the CITO, keep company leadership updated on emerging digital trends and technologies, highlighting opportunities for innovation and maintaining a competitive edge.

Cross-Functional Collaboration and Communication:

Partner with product management, engineering, data science, operations, and business leaders to ensure alignment on technology priorities and deliverables.

Act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, including the CITO, on all matters related to technology strategy.

Build and nurture relationships with external technology vendors and stakeholders to stay updated on industry innovations and best practices.

Team Leadership and Development:

Lead and mentor a high-performing team of architects, engineers, and technical leaders, fostering a culture of collaboration, excellence, and continuous improvement.

Develop and implement programs for skill-building and professional development within the technology teams.

Cultivate a strong, proactive, and solution-oriented culture within the technical teams, driving innovation and accountability.

Minimum Education and Experience Required 

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.

Proven experience (10+ years) in technology strategy in a leadership capacity, ideally within the diagnostics, healthcare, or a similar highly regulated industry.

Extensive experience designing and implementing large-scale software platforms and cloud solutions.

Strong understanding of modern software development methodologies (e.g., Agile, DevOps).

Demonstrated success in developing platform strategies that accelerate software development and time to market.

Expertise in driving technology rationalization, eliminating legacy systems, and consolidating disparate technologies to streamline operations and reduce costs.

Strong understanding of emerging technologies, including cloud computing, AI/ML, and other digital transformation tools.

Demonstrated experience leading end user computing functions, including desktop engineering, device lifecycle management, and employee technology enablement.

Proven oversight of global IT support operations, including service desk, on-site support, and field services, with a focus on service excellence, SLA adherence, and user satisfaction.

Excellent ability to work cross-functionally and communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Proven ability to collaborate with executive leadership (CIO, CTO, etc.) and influence organizational strategy through technical expertise.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

Experience with diagnostics or healthcare technology platforms and a strong understanding of regulatory compliance (e.g., HIPAA, FDA).

Familiarity with the latest trends in AI/ML and their application within the diagnostics or healthcare industry.

Experience with digital transformation and implementing cloud-native solutions, microservices, and containerization.

Certifications in cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure).

Demonstrated experience leading enterprise-wide end user computing functions, including desktop engineering, global service desk operations, and on-site support services.

Strong technical foundation with prior hands-on experience as a software architect and/or programmer.

Proven ability to design and manage enterprise IT environments with a focus on user experience, service quality, and operational efficiency.
