Job Description:

Sun Life is seeking a strategic and globally minded Sustainability Program Manager to lead and support the integration of sustainability across our real estate portfolio. This role will translate enterprise-wide ESG and climate goals into actionable strategies for Corporate Real Estate (CRE), while navigating diverse regulatory environments and political climates across our global footprint. As a people manager, you will lead a small team and act as a trusted advisor to CRE teams, helping them define and achieve their sustainability contributions.

What will you do?

Strategic ESG Integration: Translate enterprise ESG and climate commitments into CRE strategies with measurable goals and contribute to annual sustainability reporting.

Internal Consulting: Advise and partner with CRE teams on setting and achieving sustainability targets aligned with enterprise and CRE objectives.

Framework Development: Create toolkits and the structure to ensure consistent sustainability implementation across teams and regions.

Regulatory Monitoring: Track and interpret emerging sustainability regulations, building codes, and disclosure requirements to ensure compliance.

Government Engagement: Evaluate and leverage government programs, incentives, and funding to support CRE sustainability efforts.

Program Execution: Lead sustainability initiatives within our North American footprint through partners in areas such as energy efficiency, carbon reduction, sustainable design, and green leasing. Advocate for sustainability within the context of varying political and regulatory climates, ensuring compliance and maximizing opportunity.

Data & Insights: Manage the GHG verification and data assurance process, working with internal, cross-functional groups and external consultants and assurance providers and lead the implementation of internal controls processes. Lead sustainability data collection and reporting aligned with GHG disclosures and provide insights to senior leadership. 

Certification & Verification: Oversee building certifications (LEED, WELL, BOMA BEST), decarbonization roadmaps, and GHG data assurance processes.

Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a small team of sustainability professionals, fostering a culture of innovation and inclusion.

What do you need to succeed?

Bachelor’s degree in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Climate Change, Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred).

6+ years of experience in sustainability, with at least 2 years in a corporate real estate or facilities management context.

Proven experience managing or mentoring team members.

Strong understanding of global sustainability regulations, ESG frameworks, and climate risk disclosure standards.

Strong understanding of emissions reporting standards and frameworks, Climate related Financial Disclosures, and Sustainability Accounting.

Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement and effectively influence with empathy, credibility and trust.

Professional certifications (e.g., LEED AP, WELL AP, PMP, ISSP-CSP, P.Eng).

Experience with ESG reporting platforms and sustainability data tools.

Familiarity with climate risk, net-zero strategies, and sustainable finance principles.

Knowledge of various HVAC and other building systems

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.
