Position Summary
The Sushi Chef delivers an exceptional culinary and hospitality experience through the preparation and presentation of high-quality sushi offerings. This guest-facing role combines craftsmanship, creativity, and service, while also managing daily sushi operations including recipe execution, food safety, labor, and cost controls. The Sushi Chef actively engages with guests, leads by example in the kitchen, and mentors team members to uphold culinary standards and a premium member experience.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Prepares and presents high-quality sushi while interacting with guests and ensuring a premium experienceDesigns and maintains sushi menus and pricing, with a focus on fresh ingredients and guest appealDevelops, tests, and refines sushi recipes and preparation techniques to ensure consistency and minimize wasteConducts regular inventory and orders supplies based on demand forecasting and quality standardsLeads, trains, and mentors sushi team members to ensure consistency in preparation, presentation, and serviceEnsures all team members follow food safety, HACCP, and sanitation guidelines to maintain a safe, clean work environment
Position Requirements
Passion for culinary craftsmanship and guest serviceAbility to create and serve beautiful, high-quality sushi in a fast-paced environmentStrong communication skills and willingness to engage with members and guestsAbility to lead a team and deliver consistent resultsKnowledge of safe knife handling and kitchen toolsUnderstanding of food safety and HACCP protocolsAbility to lift and/or move up to 10 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs occasionally
Education:
Culinary degree or equivalent hands-on experience preferredYears of Experience:
2 to 3 years of professional sushi preparation experienceLicenses / Certifications / Registrations:
ServSafe Food Manager Certification or EquivalentServSafe Alcohol Safety or EquivalentPreferred QualificationsExperience in a guest-facing or open-kitchen conceptDemonstrated ability to drive sales through presentation, specials, or guest engagementExperience with menu development, inventory management, and cost controlPrevious leadership or mentoring experience in a kitchen settingPayThis is an hourly position with wages starting at $19.75 and pays up to $26.50, based on experience and qualifications.BenefitsAll team members receive the following benefits while working for Life Time:
