Under the supervision of a Surveyor Supervisor, this position reviews survey data that is generated by Location and Survey crews. This position can also be utilized to direct crews to layout special needs for the construction of roads and create special maps. This position assists in the management and scheduling of survey crews. This position must be efficient in the current version of Inroads and MicroStation. This position may require statewide travel that involves overnight stays in hotels from Monday through Thursday.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
+ Review and edits electronic survey data for accuracy and completeness, including the computing, plotting, and survey map preparation in electronic format using laptop computers and specialized electronic data collection software, Inroads and MicroStation.
+ Performs calculations and verifies accuracies on horizontal and vertical survey control information to be included in the Louisiana Spatial Information Database; including G.P.S. derived vertical information, conventional differential leveling, and gravity study data.
+ Research records in courthouses, lad offices, and other locations where maps and ownership records are stored in order to determine inconsistencies, errors, and omissions in deeds, abstracts, maps, and surveys.
+ May act as an expert witness in court suits involving matters pertaining to land boundaries. May be required to write legal descriptions of land areas shown on completed survey maps.
Position-Specific Details:
A current Louisiana Land Surveyor Intern Certificate is required.
Compensation: This position is eligible for a 10% base pay increase upon attainment of permanent status.
Career Progression: As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as a Surveyor Intern 1, Surveyor Intern 2, Surveyor 3, Surveyor 4 or a Surveyor 5 depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant. The maximum salary for the Surveyor 5 is $117,936.
