Job Description:Essentia Health is seeking a professional with a passion for healthcare and a desire to build an exciting career in the operating room. Our surgical technologist apprentice program will pay for your education and training while you are paid to work! This position is located in Brainerd, Minnesota at St. Joseph's Medical Center. Pay is $20 hourly while in training. Once education and clinicals are completed, you will be promoted to a surgical technologist and receive a wage of $27.27. Must be able to commit to working a full-time position as an apprentice and completing online studies outside of work hours. Apprenticeship will last about one year, and the employee must commit to work an additional two years as a surgical technologist.

What You'll Do:

Under the guidance of a Surgical Technologist, Sterile Processing Technician, or Registered Nurse, the Surgical Technologist Apprentice works at an entry-level, assisting Registered Nurses, Physicians, Sterile Processing Technicians, and other providers with direct patient care within the surgical setting. Stocks and completes census of supplies and equipment to ensure the maintenance of proper levels of supplies, materials, and equipment. Once competencies have been demonstrated, performs identified procedures while under supervision of a Registered Nurse or Physician. Key responsibilities include:

Assist in operating room set-up, preparation and transportation of surgical patients, clinical assistance during surgical cases, working in collaboration with surgeons, nurses, and surgical technologistsAs competencies advance, may assist with adjusting lighting and operating room equipment prior to and during cases, securing and handing off surgical instrumentation, positioning and holding retractors, cutting sutures, and taking inventory of supplies prior to and at the closure of operative casesMay assist sterile processing technicians or surgical technicians with other duties based on competencies and needs

Licensure/Certification Qualifications:AHA Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification within 3 months of hire. National certification (NCCT) is required within 12 months of completion of the program.Previous healthcare experience and medical terminology preferred.
