Specialties include Plastics, Ortho, Sports, Endocrine, and more + Opportunities to advance your surgical career What You'll Do: Under the supervision of a registered nurse, you’ll play a key role in supporting complex surgical procedures by: + Preparing the operating room — set up sterile instruments, equipment, drapes, and solutions + Checking, adjusting, and maintaining equipment to ensure readiness + Assisting the surgical team with gowning and gloving + Passing instruments, sutures, and sponges during surgery + Holding retractors, cutting sutures, suctioning operative sites, and assisting in counts of sponges, needles, and instruments + Preparing patients for surgery, including washing, shaving, and ensuring sterile incision sites + Transporting and positioning patients on the operating table + Assisting with specimens, graft materials, and applying dressings + Ensuring all medications are labeled and handed to the surgeon per policy + Maintaining a clean, safe, and aseptic environment + Assisting in cleanup and restocking after surgery Beyond the OR: + Serve as a resource and mentor to students and new team members + Participate in committees and interdisciplinary teams + Collaborate with the Clinician to share and apply new knowledge + Help keep our department running smoothly and efficiently every day _This role is a valued step in our career ladder, offering opportunities for growth and advancement. Title and salary are based on education and experience._ + Must meet one of the following: + Completed program sponsored by nationally recognized institutional or programmatic accreditation and maintains certification + Has completed appropriate military training program + Was employed as a surg tech in a health care facility on or before effective date of the act (12/27/2020) + Employed as a surg tech at another health care facility two years before effective date (12/27/2020) + New graduates of a program sponsored by nationally recognized institutional or programmatic accreditation can work for six months prior to certification but must be certified within six months of program completion. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: + CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire + Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or Technologist Surgery Certified (TSC) within 6 months of program completion + Note: Staff employed to practice surgical technology by the health care facility on or before the effective date of the law (12/27/2020) or who were employed as a surg tech at another health care facility two years before effective date of the law are grandfathered and therefore not required to have certification. + Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) + Act 34 **UPMC is an Equal Opportunity Employer/Disability/Veteran**
